Walton's best-known landmark is Goodison Park, the home of Everton FC since 1892 and one of the world's first purpose-built football grounds. The Leeds-Liverpool canal passes through Litherland. It was famous for its gala and procession of shire horses and floats from the docks. Linacre Lane was once home to a huge Bryant and May Diamond Match Factory which was destroyed in the 1941 May blitz.
