almost any old computer will work! buy as little as possible, maybe try salvaging first ubuntu (and many others) are pretty-much “just works” these last few years if you’re looking for a new cyberdeck made by a small group of cool folks, see mnt (for myself, i run a thinkpad x1 carbon with manjaro/gnome) ps. framework recently made news by supporting some far right blah blah (which is to say, open source (etc) is also frequently a hellscape, don’t be too optimistic)| lines
