After a user signaled a performance issue in a Matrix client, we have added new tracing timers in the Matrix Rust SDK to spot the problem. Once found, we have fixed an SQL query improving the throughput from 19k to 251k events/sec, and the speed from 502ms to 39ms. Then after another creative patch, the throughput has been improved to 4.2M events/sec, and the speed to 2ms.| mnt.io
Even though most traditional December activities are a bit impractical this year, Eric Wastl returns with his annual Advent of Code. Every day from December first until Christmas Day you get a small puzzle that you can solve by writing small programs or by being very good at solving jigsaw puzzles. About 8 years ago, I turned off and carted away the server running boinkmarks (aka autobench), the benchmarking and performance tracker for SBCL. It seems like its last planet.sbcl.org entry was around 2009-04-11. At the time, it had run benchmarks on every revision1 of SBCL since 2004 - I’d been running it for 8 years, as long as I now have not run it. Time for a retrospective!| boinkor.net
