After a holiday weekend followed by their biggest professional conference of the year, law school admissions officers are back at their schools and hoping that someone was able to water all the plants while they were away.| 7Sage lsat
Ah, yes, mid-January! The holidays are over, law schools are open, and admissions offices are back up and running. Not only is file reading in full swing, but so is decision making. A scroll through lawschooldata’s “Recent Decisions” page is a veritable Skittles bag of admits, waitlists, and denies. Just look at all the action from the lower parts of the alphabet on January 10th:| 7Sage lsat
With the middle of February here, admissions officers will take the quickest of breaks to open Valentine’s Day cards, have a chocolate or two, and then get back to reading applications. Those piles of documents (both actual paper and virtual) wait for no heart-shaped treats—they must be attended to! So it’s probably best to take guidance from Cookie Monster and opt for speed rather than cleanliness while consuming holiday sweets| 7Sage lsat
With February having arrived and six more weeks of winter apparently on the horizon (and leaving an eternal mystery still unsolved—if the groundhog is so powerful at predicting the weather, why not just cover him up with an umbrella and sunglasses so that he can’t see his shadow? Something along these lines wouldn’t be too tricky),| 7Sage lsat
With the final week of January here and February now on the horizon, law school admissions officers are continuing to do their best to read, evaluate, discuss, and provide admissions decisions on the national surge in applications.| 7Sage lsat
With the second full week of November upon us and the long weekend for Thanksgiving just on the horizon, law school admissions officers find themselves in one of their key transition periods.| 7Sage lsat
With Halloween here and only one more week of travel season on their docket, law school admissions officers are starting to prepare themselves to stretch out some different muscles. They’ve spent the past two months sprinting from one law fair to the next, setting up their tables in five minutes so that they can make one last coffee run before the attendees arrive (oh no, they’re here!), talking with prospective students one after another for two hours, and then packing up to head to the ...| 7Sage lsat
With the ides of October approaching, we hit one of the few times of year when all aspects of the law school admissions ecosystem are equally and extremely stressed. Most of the year, only one wing or another can win the title of “MOST STRESSED!” In June, for example, admissions officers would probably acknowledge that current applicants (praying for waitlist offers before signing apartment leases) and future applicants (praying for a good LSAT score) are in a tougher position than them. ...| 7Sage lsat
*Editor's Note: At the time of this blog's publication on August 21, Georgetown Law had announced that they had changed two of their optional responses on their application for the coming year. When their application opened on September 1, their optional responses had reverted back to the previous year's list and Georgetown Law updated their website accordingly. | 7Sage lsat
With the calendar turning to the Ides of August, law school admissions officers are preparing for one of the most important moments of the entire recruitment cycle—orientation. In the coming days, they’ll be watching their classes like hawks to ensure that every incoming student arrives on time. They’re giving their deans daily updates with any cancellations and late adds. They’re developing their backup strategies in case someone “no shows” at orientation. To put this in gif form...| 7Sage lsat
With the calendar having turned towards August and with law school admissions officers often turning from one computer monitor (showing their email inbox, in case any of their incoming students decides to cancel their enrollment plans) to another (showing Olympic coverage, in case a gold medal event begins), last week’s blog theme of holding the line remains true. This is a time when admissions officers are publicly reacting rather than acting. They can only make further offers of admission...| 7Sage lsat
With both August and the new academic year on the horizon, law school admissions officers continue to prep for the coming year. They are finalizing their travel plans, updating their websites, and also beginning to host some live recruitment events (more on that below). They’re also eagerly awaiting the arrival of their incoming class with the grim determination of a firm Scottish defensive line.| 7Sage lsat
With July days now beginning with the digit “2,” orientation is just three to four weeks away for most law schools. This means that law school AdComms are balancing the emotional/logistical needs of their incoming cohort (Trying to fill last-minute available seats via the waitlist! Trying to convince the student who was admitted off another school’s waitlist to reject that offer! Trying to convince their law school’s budget officer that they’ll bring in enough tuition revenue to kee...| 7Sage lsat
Now that law school admissions officers have returned from the Washington, D.C. Law Forum and are hopefully done refamiliarizing themselves with how to navigate their university’s travel reimbursement forms, they now turn to the home stretch of both their preparations for the incoming class as well as the upcoming recruitment cycle. Regarding the former, we noted in last week’s blog that the D.C. Forum really serves as the soft launch for the upcoming cycle … so why are we still mention...| 7Sage lsat
Refreshed from their day off for the Fourth of July (or, if they played their cards right with vacation time, a four-day weekend), law school admissions officers hit a hard reality now that the days in July have two digits—their summer is basically over. The first big recruitment of the year is this week, returning 2Ls will be back at the law school in another three weeks for on-campus interviews, and orientation at many schools is just five weeks away. With preparations for the incoming cl...| 7Sage lsat
