Overview A developer of core JavaScript libraries distributed through NPM was hacked after falling for a phishing email. The email used a common trick: an urgent warning that the recipient’s account would be locked unless they updated their two-factor authentication using a link that looked legitimate. A low-skill malicious actor then added crypto-stealing code to those libraries.| HALOCK

Early last month I went on a 4-week trip to the US visiting NYC, San Diego, and Boston. Unlike my usual month-long trips back home where I can leave my pens and inks in one place throughout my stay, it was a bit of a hassle maintaining my daily writing routine and weekly ink swaps […]| UK FOUNTAIN PENS
Summary The Aurora Optima is a charming and well-functioning pen. I find the Auroloide material to be quite cheerful in a muted sort of way and the nib is a pleasant writer especially if you prefer a more pencil-like experience with more feedback. The piston mechanism is smooth and reliable, though not the most straightforward […]| UK FOUNTAIN PENS
Summary: The Onoto Excel is a well-built and excellent writer. Compared to the slightly-larger Pilot Custom 74, this pen is a step up in both price and quality. The sterling silver trims, tougher body, and a lovely stubbish broad nib appealed to me despite the steep price. If you like the conservative design of the […]| UK FOUNTAIN PENS

The parts for the Unicorn circuit board arrived! The circuit boards themselves sill aren't here, of course (cheap shipping from China is cheap and slow). Anyway, I went through the parts I received and, lo and behold, I got one wrong. Thankfully, it was only the switch—I had ordered a surface-mount version instead of a through-hole version. The good news is I can still use the switch. I have corrected the part number and price in the part list spreadsheet. On a slightly related subject, I f...| Cyrozap's Tech Projects
Ok, so I'm a few days late with ordering the parts. No big deal, right? Anyway, I got them ordered today and it ended up costing around $16 (including shipping, from Digi-key). That parts cost reflects a full set of RoHS-compliant and lead-free parts, so it is possible to get the parts cheaper. Tentative BOM after the break. I say that this BOM is "tentative" because I may have ordered some wrong parts.| Cyrozap's Tech Projects
I just ordered 10 of the Minimalist Unicorn Controller Boards that I designed. Total cost was around $34 from SeeedStudio, so that's about $3.40 per board. If you want, I can send you one for the cost of the board + shipping. I really only want one for my Unicorn (still haven't used it) so I kinda want to offset that cost a bit. I'll be ordering the components tomorrow so I'll let you know what the electronic bits cost then. Sorry about this post's grammar—it's late but I really wanted to g...| Cyrozap's Tech Projects
