Since I've wrote post about my specific FreeBSD settings for Thinkpad X220 near 5 years have passed. That post has a lot of additions and become a bit messy. So, after I updated FreeBSD on my laptop up to 14.2 version and finally found some time to carefully read a "FreeBSD handbook", I decided to write a new article about my configuration and about few useful utilities and tricks.| Dragon’s notes
I think almost everyone who reads my blog knows that the BIOS is the first program that runs when the computer is turned on. Usually, the only actions user can do with this program — open the BIOS menu and change the boot order, change date/time, change peripheral settings and so on. Or, if the user is lucky, he can find and install the BIOS modified by hackers (but he can't look inside this BIOS without reverse engineering skills). Unfortunately, the BIOS source code is closed and initial...| Dragon’s notes
Since March 2015, I've used a ThinkPad T450s as my personal laptop, and I'm both amazed and pleased that I've managed to get 7 (nearly 8) years out of it! Recently though, I've found the smaller 14-inch 1600x900 resolution screen a bit limiting, and the CPU performance could be better| James Ridgway
Before, I wrote a lot of rumblings about my problems with FreeBSD Stage 3 loader with removed graphics support (because of Netflix) and with Libreboot (corebootfb version): here, here and here. But at one good night I was searching in the Internet for information about how well the Libreboot supports *BSD OSes — and suddenly found that there is a separate page on the libreboot.org about this topic: Install a BSD operating system on Libreboot. With this section, important for me — FreeBS...| Dragon’s notes
On a new-to-me ThinkPad T440p, I’ve had the worst time with the TrackPoint. First, the stock configuration has a horrible touchpad - which shouldn’t matter if you don’t use the touchpad, but the horribleness of it is that the physical buttons that should be on the top of the touchpad, and are on the touchpads of models preceding and following the **40 line, are not there. But one can replace it, and so I did. The T440p is nice in that servicing the fan and other internals of the machine...| The Neo-Babbage Files
Turns out that using stable and performant computers as a home server is way too boring for me.| ./techtipsy
Now that AMD’s Zen 4 CPUs landed in lots of laptops, I picked up a ThinkPad Z13 G2 with an AMD Ryzen CPU. Did I put Linux on it? Of course I did. 🐧| Major Hayden
