I don’t think it is a secret that I’m becoming a fan of Lewis Capaldi’s music, which says a lot for me because I haven’t found an artist I can listen to non-stop and still find a verse or word that makes me think, feel or remember something. When I remember stuff, it’s a gamble … Continue reading Almost by Lewis Capaldi→| Mybookworld24
I love surprising students. When schools invite me to visit, I often share the behind-the-scenes journeys of my books or unusual aspects like illustrations or STEM elements. These receive great reactions, when kids discover so many things about the creative process – and the world – they didn’t know. But when a school requests a … Continue reading Poetry Friday: First school visit of the year yields more student poetry!| Radio, Rhythm & Rhyme

Let me begin by saying this: If you’re going to write a poem with this kind of title, you can be guaranteed I’ll read it. Much like last week’s post, this was not the poem I’d intended to share today. It's funny how sometimes there's kind of a "thing" in middle grade literature. This week, I read two different books that were published in the same week and both were about kids who were dealing with a missing mom. It's fairly often that children are left to their own devices, particularly in middle grade literature-think James and the Giant Peach, Harry Potter, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, to name a few, so it's not really surprising to find missing parents, but these two books...| The Book Search
