In 1931, Churchill himself listed “Men Who Have Influenced or Impressed Me.” Three in particular stand out. Bourke Cockran, Hugh Cecil and Ian Hamilton, each in his own way, met many qualities of mentors listed by Daniel Levinson in his classic work, “Seasons of a Man’s Life.” Without them, Winston Churchill would have been a different man.
