I'm rewiring my new-to-me detached garage. Garage is from the 70s but has a newer Siemens panel (previous owners added a hot tub). The feed from my service panel is a sheathed 4 conductor cable in buried conduit, but both ground and neutral are bonded on the neutral bar. I lucked out and have the 4c feed, so I can just add ground bars and get the neutral and ground separated per code, right? Here's where I'm a bit confused. I went to the service panel to just lay eyes on the same four conduct...| Recent Questions - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
I'm installing a subpanel to bring power to a garage. Answers to similar questions make it clear that a subpanel must isolate ground from neutral, so the bonding screw will be removed at the subpanel. The standard recommendation is to run /3wg cable from the main panel to the subpanel. But I've got some NM-B 8/2wg cable that I'd like to use. I believe that would allow: Either 120v service (a single pole breaker on the black wire at the main panel, white as neutral) Or else 240v service (a dou...| Recent Questions - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
I'm running a new sub-panel to my basement (the main panel is in the garage). I bought a 500' spool of 6 AWG THHN. The distance to the sub-panel is about 110' so I cut the spool into 4 x 125' lengths. I was planning on using one of the THHN cables as the ground. I just wanted to confirm that it would not be an issue running an insulated wire as the ground. I don't see why it would be a problem but just wanted to double check. And as a follow-up, I saw one place that if you are using 6 AWG or ...| Recent Questions - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
