To journey without being changed is to be a nomad. To change without journeying is to be a chameleon. To journey and be transformed by the journey is to be a pilgrim. — Mark Nepo Let change be a marker of possibility instead of something to be afraid of. The feasibility of the sub-system for Alchemy I proposed for the alchemy month hinges on the presence of multiple formulas for the same potion. Only by finding two or more formulas that creates similar effects will players have a chance to understand the principles of correspondence and substitution. The presence of multiple formulas also reinforces the notion that formulas are more like recipes for cooking than chemical notation; or that they consist of equal measures fluff and crunch.| Triple Suns
Apparently, there is an alchemy month going on. That's neat, since I've been thinking a lot about alchemy now that my campaign is on pause. Here are my rules. They are not at all playtested, but at least in theory I'm really happy with them.| Triple Suns

Lifetimes of trauma and programming form distortions in identity, certain ways of being and thinking that create safety. Being a certain way, such as pleasing, tough, good or smart, compels us to want life to be a certain way, again, for safety. Inner control creates illusions of outer control, projections from fear, which make it difficult to trust and flow with the full-spectrum rhythms of life. I’ve made it abundantly clear that the virus- and vaccine-induced collective storm is servin...| Vince Gowmon

The world of FromSoftware’s 2022 RPG Elden Ring is not governed by strictly realistic systems. Death has been abducted, the flow of time eddies around levitating islands, and Patches has been inexplicably reincarnated for a fourth time. Yet despite this, the game works within its own system of dream logic, focusing primarily on the relationships […] The post “Let us be shattered, both… Mine other self”: Elden Ring’s Alchemical Explorations of Gender appeared first on Historical Ga...| Historical Games Network
Meagan S. Allen’s book Roger Bacon and the Incorruptible Human, 1220-1292: Alchemy, Pharmacology and the Desire to Prolong Life shows how alchemy, astrology and medicine were interconnected in the medieval world. Roger Bacon was a 13th century philosopher and Franciscan friar, who, like many others of the time, was influenced by both the Bible and medical works, and believed that the extension of life was a valid pursuit. | Karen Christino

I previously published a GLOG class called the alchemist. I was pretty proud of my creation, but it was a complex class, and it hadn't been playtested. Anyone who does game design knows that no matter how "solid" something seems, if you don't playtest it, you can't be certain that it works like you intended.| Of Slugs and Silver
