Today, SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 rocket carrying an Intuitive Machines mission to land on the moon. Among other things, the mission contains a mini data center—just 1 kilogram containing a microchip and 8 terabytes of SSD storage. The idea holds promise: safety from earthly disruptions and a haven for data sovereignty. But there is are also latency and bandwidth issues, maintenance difficulty and cost.
