I once knew a team who built a beautiful platform that almost no-one used. In fact, the only real consumers of this elegant system were the platform engineers themselves. This was partly intentional. The platform team considered themselves guinea pigs - they would be the first consumers of the platform, making sure that it was fit for purpose by eating their own dog food1. Sadly, while they succeeded in being the first consumers, they also ended up being pretty much the only consumers.
