Birmingham City Council has embarked on a major overhaul of the bins service in a bid to save money, increase efficiency and remove equal pay risks. Birmingham has experienced three major strikes, in 2017, 2019 and 2025, involving members of the Unite union. Each time, collections across the city have been severely disrupted with bags and wheelie bins left uncollected for weeks on end.
