Backstory At the 38th Chaos Communication Congress (38C3) benjojo gave a very interesting talk titled: “Going Long! Sending weird signals over long haul optical networks” Spoiler/tl;dw: Ben is showing that common SFP fiber optic transceivers are mostly “dumb” devices, just converting digital electric signals into light (and vice-versa).
