Through the fellowship, Dr. Cansler will study the brain mechanisms that allow for selective attention to odors. In her postdoctoral NRSA F32 fellowship, “Odor-Directed Attention and the Medial Prefrontal Cortex,” Dr. Cansler will use optogenetics and fiber photometry from rats engaged in a selective attention task to determine how prefrontal cortex neurons represent selective attention and how exactly they may contribute to odor-guided decisions and perceptions.
