The spread of false claims linking Canada’s wildfires to arson or governmental conspiracies, rather than climate change, has been part of a years-long trend, the Climate Action Against Disinformation organization said in a recent bulletin. It said this year’s misinformation is made up of the same baseless claims it detailed in a report from last year.
