This was originally published in my newsletter. From July to December last year, I lived in a little surfer town called Uluwatu, which lies at the most south-westerly point in Bali. It is among the most wonderful places I have ever been. The beaches are clean and sandy, the food is delicious, and the region is densely forested with quiet, winding little roads perfect for scooters. The people—Balinese and foreigners alike—are largely relaxed, cheerful and friendly.
