VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) combines compute, storage, and network virtualization into a single platform, on a subscription basis. This is a departure from the past, when customers were able to buy individual pieces of the product under perpetual licenses instead of subscriptions. The new approach is often considered to be a better fit for VMware's largest customers, at the expense of smaller clients. But one midsize enterprise says it's making it work and saving money while doing it.
