James C. Dobson, Jr., the evangelical Christian psychologist who rose to national prominence through promoting parental discipline and conservative values, died August 21 at age 89, the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI) announced. The ministry, which Dobson founded after 33 years of leading Focus on the Family, did not give a cause of death. A licensed marriage, family, and child counselor in both California and Colorado, Dobson wrote more than 30 books.
