Peristil was meant to be used by the Diocletian and the cult of the living son of Jupiter. The emperor made appearances under the arch of the central part of Vestibul entrance. His subjects approached him adoringly and either kneeled to kiss the hem of his purple cloak or prostrated themselves in front of him.
