Genograms are useful for illustrating familial patterns of illness and general trends like longevity. Genealogy sites allow the building of family trees and subtrees that are often confusing and do not have adequate resolution for research quality graphics in papers or presentations. Several years ago I came across a great looking diagram of metabolism created with EDraw Max. I used the same software to create the genogram below that I will be using in a blog post.
