Updating your build pipeline to use SFDX is something that is coming up with greater and greater frequency. Many companies are still using the old metadata format for Salesforce, and perhaps the full advantage of scratch orgs and the new metadata format is still a hard sell. It's understandable. Using ANT, jsforce, or any of a dozen other legacy options for performing production deploys makes people uncomfortable; also understandable.
