I wanted to write this post a long time ago - but refrained from doing so for a number of reasons. Since this topic came across my path a few days ago, and the discussion is continuing, it finally gave me the incentive to push the publish button - because I think this is a really touchy, emotional and controversial topic - and I think that my thoughts can add to the discussion.
