Adélaïde Labille-Guiard (Fig. 1) was a French painter born in 1749. She started her training in 1763 under miniature painter François-Elie Vincent and also studied pastels under Maurice-Quentin de La Tour from 1769-1774. She eventually opened up her own studio, where she taught at least nine other female artists.
