antilibrary; intentions; my ideal self; aspirations. stuff on my mind; stuff i want to think about but just not quite yet. i am the ashamed owner of a dozen browser windows, many containing a dozen+ tabs—what is in there??| anhvn.com

I feel like most of my work is very casual—I publish blog posts without editing, leave my artwork in the ‘sketch’ stage, and go fuck it, good enough more often than not. This year, I want to take things more seriously and push myself to really improve my craft, which involves actually doing the hard work and expecting more out of myself. This is the non-fuck-it year.| anhvn.com
Thank you Ethan and Gosha for kindly tagging me in this! ^_^v| anhvn.com
not every thought needs to be immortalized on my website| anhvn
Note for RSS readers: I designed a custom blog post layout for this, which won’t display properly in an RSS reader (in fact, it will probably be extremely screwed up), so I encourage reading it on my blog itself.| anhvn
last weeknotes of the year!| anhvn
can i be real with you?| anhvn

Twenty-four is a pleasing number, so I feel inclined to make these weeknotes a bit Better, but not by much.| anhvn

In general| anhvn
note for rss reader enjoyers: this post uses a custom layout, so i recommend reading it on my blog itself. it’ll probably read like hot garbage without the layout| anhvn
After aspiring to for the past few years, I finally succeeded in updating my site for Halloween! I have a new (spooky) homepage.| anhvn
An extremely long post because I haven’t written this in a month and there is so much to catch up on. More like MONTHnotes amirite??!?!?| anhvn

I have a bunch of nebulous ideas for my website bouncing around in my head or splattered horribly across Figma files, which would probably all die in obscurity if I don’t get my shit together, but I’ve been somewhat inspired by Jim Nielsen’s post about his ‘failed’ site redesign, and publicly documenting incomplete work.| anhvn
It’s July, and the passage of time continues to be disorienting.| anhvn
Truthfully, there is not much to recap from the past couple of weeks because I spent all of my time playing Destiny.| anhvn
Reading| anhvn
I was clicking around Pinterest and fell into the rabbit hole of editorial illustration (very cool, wish that were me (some day)) and then homage covers of The New Yorker. And I thought, huh, that could be a fun thing to do.| anhvn

Note: If you're reading this in a reader app, the layout's going to be borked with all the images—my apologies. Please check it out on my blog itself for the proper display.| anhvn
Here are some things I would like to tackle this year| anhvn
---| anhvn
Last weekend I built a page that I’m calling the listening room. It showcases the six latest songs from my ‘on repeat’ music list in a fun little room setting.| anhvn
As more time passes since my last weeknote| anhvn
Another year, another recap. Here is the highlight reel of all the stuff I enjoyed this year: film & tv, music, games, and books. I record all this in my Media Diary.| anhvn
Two weeks after my last weeknotes, I was thinking to myself, hmm I should start on my next entry, and then I thought, no, it’s too early, and now it’s been a month since the last.| anhvn
to summarize: trying to redesign, internet reading list, way too much minecraft, and some other media| anhvn
I used to write weeknotes—weekly recaps of Stuff—several years ago, with some regularity. Then I stopped. And now I’m trying again.| anhvn
Like many internet girlies, I learned to code on tumblr dot com. My technical skills have never really progressed far beyond this (html and css), which has always been a source of embarrassment, but alas, I was simply not interested.| anhvn
I’ve been into ‘planning’/‘journaling’ (and adjacent stationery hobbies) on and off for a long time. This year, I’ve been a lot more consistent at it, though not necessarily good. I define ‘good’ as writing a substantial amount of detail about a day, which usually takes more than 2 minutes, and often I am failing to commit that amount of time and effort. But I make low-effort records every day, which is better than zero.| anhvn
Last weekend, I updated my homepage to feature some short comics that introduce different sections of my website.| anhvn
kicking off 2023 (in february, lol), with a quick note about something I want to do:| anhvn
Here’s a recap of my media consumption for the year. I track all this in my Media Diary.| anhvn
I feel like this week has been an exceptionally good week for gamers, which has filled me with a sense of deep appreciation for getting into video games in the past few years.| anhvn
I’ve added my sketchbook back to the site nav.| anhvn
A standard heading: large, eye-catching text. It announces a new topic, organizes your writing, helps the reader skim.| anhvn
‘I should blog more,’ I think, as one does when one has a personal blog. But writing is so hard, and writing about something worth reading about is hard, and self-doubt is so easy.| anhvn
I’m starting a new homepage redesign—the concept is ‘responsive comic.’ Here’s an old sketch I sliced up to test. One of my goals is to play around with how to rearrange compositions based on screen size.| anhvn
I love to discover new things that make me feel colossally stupid for not doing them sooner. That’s the best kind of discovery! This is the Markdown Optimizations Edition.| anhvn
I’ve created a Reading List.| anhvn
I finally went and fixed up how I was managing my data on my Lost Sectors and Nightfalls sites. When I first created them I structured the data by season, and now that multiple seasons have passed it was annoying to manage duplicate sets of data.| anhvn
I started building a to do app, which is really more of a journaling app. I’ve reached the point of getting tired of the build process though, so I’m switching to writing about it to reboot my brain.| anhvn
I haven’t written anything lately and I also feel like I’m not thinking about much worth writing about lately, so I’m not writing. And the longer it drags on that I don’t publish something, the more pressure I feel to make my next addition Good, which is just a lot of pressure to feel about something that doesn’t matter.| anhvn
I built a new PC last week. I had bought my previous PC from a friend five or so years ago, and it was showing its age in its inability to run games smoothly, which is really the only thing I care about.| anhvn
I published this site redesign last month knowing it was imperfect, and I’ve finally returned to it to fix all the little details that weren’t great.| anhvn
Winnie Lim wrote, I love my website too, which was part of a chain that links back to Tracy Durnell and James, and then to Jeremy Keith. And here I am continuing it.| anhvn
I started moving my game review content over to a separate collection, with each game being its own item. My previous Games 2020 post as a single long post of every game worked well at the time, but the number of games I’m trying out is increasing and I would like to maintain more metadata about each one.| anhvn
I am, as they say, back on my bullshit. I’m redesigning my site. I’m writing about it here.| anhvn
I recently built a client site in Webflow, which was all fun and good and Webflow is a very good website builder, but I ran up against some platform limitations that frustrated me. This led to a renewed interest in tinkering with my own stuff, and I ended up creating my nightfalls reference site and then fiddling around with my media diary. It’s satisfying to make stuff!| anhvn
I set up my blog so that I could include a table of contents to long posts if I want to. It’s based on what headings I have. Currently, I’ve set it to work only with <h2> tags, as I rarely go deeper than that.| anhvn
I made Lost Sector Today to display the day’s rotating activity in Destiny 2, a game I spend too much time playing and thinking about. This information is available on other resource sites, but I made this because I wanted the info to be organized in a specific way and easily accessible.| anhvn
Back from April 2021. I like flowers. Portra 160, shot at 200.| anhvn
I built out a media diary of stuff I watch, because I don’t enjoy using letterboxd and I’m on an eternal quest of reinventing existing platforms on my own site, because I like controlling how things look and work.| anhvn
and autumn comes when you’re not yet done / with the summer passing by| anhvn
visited the cat cafe, pet lots of cats| anhvn
Games I played in 2021, continually updated. Really, this is going to be dominated by one game.| anhvn
I’ve returned to my old Keyboard Dressup project, which I made last year as a fun little javascript thing to try out different keycap colour schemes. This time I’m repurposing it to work with my upcoming Gardenfall set. The goals are:| anhvn
It feels weird to fire up the old personal website blog after straight up ignoring it for five months.| anhvn
I stashed a ‘redesign’ in progress on another branch to write this post. I need to think more in increments rather than trying to do fewer but bigger changes. Incremental progress would be better than zero progress.| anhvn
Keycaps| anhvn
The most notable thing I did was make a new theme. Other than that, I built a new keyboard, am designing a keyset, and am still playing a lot of Destiny.| anhvn
Trying out weeknotes again, i.e. a review of the last two weeks of Stuff I Did.| anhvn
In the year of the pandemic, I made new friends online. I have a job that I like. I played a lot of games, which I wrote about here. I purged my blog, created this new one, and redesigned it. I didn’t go to NYC. I sold my art online. I shopped online a lot, thinking of future plans for the After Times. I’m thankful for my good health.| anhvn
Here are all the games I’ve played this year. It’s mostly PC games from Steam, with a couple of Switch games.| anhvn
Here’s a walkthrough of how I made this animated teaser video, from back in January. It was done in collaboration with kema:| anhvn
Here is my keyboard:| anhvn
I drew this to accompany a landing page. It’s based on the indie game Hyper Light Drifter, which is known for its atmospheric pixel artwork. It’s pictured above at a x3 magnification, but I think it looks best at its original size of 300px ✨| anhvn
In August, I went back to Seattle with my partner, for four days this time. (See May photos).| anhvn
Visiting Victoria, BC. Mix of film + digital photos.| anhvn
Last month, I went to Seattle for two days for a workshop.| anhvn.com
Sketches, storyboards, and a breakdown of my comic homepage. It's about the vibes.| anhvn
filters and thinkies about future website tasks; Things I Read; sitting on the floor and vibing to music videos; real life; a segue into politics; springtime.| anhvn
I made my about page a while back. Here are some brief notes on it.| anhvn.com
This week I redesigned my homepage to look like chat bubbles.| anhvn.com
It makes me feel depressed to give up, but I’m shelving my ~halloween website idea~ that I’m unable to finish before, well, Halloween.| anhvn.com
I’ve rebuilt my photo gallery. There have been many iterations of this as I try to maintain a personal alternative to Instagram; here is the latest.| anhvn.com
I meant to write a comprehensive post about my site redesign, but honestly I’ve run out of steam and instead I’m just going to write some messy notes for the sake of actually publishing it.| anhvn.com

I’ve been using a 4-star rating system for my watchlist for a while now, but I’ve had a consistent problem: most of the time, I end up rating something 2/4 because I think it’s fine.| anhvn.com
