A number of us were fortunate to be at Princess Bay on Portland Island for the solar eclipse a few days ago. While I didn’t have the camera equipment to photograph the actual eclipse I did shoot some images as the eclipse hit about a 90% coverage. The whole experience was interesting with a strange […]| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
Mt. Norman on South Pender Island has amazing views overlooking the San Juan Islands and the mountains in Washington State. While it’s a steep hike to get to the summit it is well worth the effort, especially at sunset. Here’s a July view overlooking Trincomali on North Pender Island and the San Juan Islands.| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
How cool is this VW van converted into an ATM? I personally love it although I didn’t partake of the service that it offers. This hippie VW ATM was doling out cash at the recent Saturna Island Lamb BBQ at Winter Cove. Check out the solar panel on the roof!| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
One of our favourite anchorages in the Gulf Islands National Park is at Russell Island. A few days ago didn’t disappoint again as warm weather and reasonably calm seas made for an enjoyable evening. Russell Island has amazingly clear waters and some very family friendly beaches. A few walks through the forest to cool down, […]| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
While not recommended for larger boats unless the tide is at slack, running a boat through Boat Passage on Saturna Island can be a lot of fun. It also provides entertainment for people visiting the Winter Cove area of the Gulf Islands National Park. While the pass isn’t running at full speed in this video […]| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
The 68th Annual Lamb BBQ will be held on July 1st at Winter Cove, Saturna Island. This is Canada’s 150th birthday so it should be an amazing bash. Open fire BBQ lamb, good weather, beer and games… what more could you want. The Saturna Lamb BBQ is by far the largest fundraising event on the […]| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
Summer is finally here so the lucky folks that can either boat to Sidney Spit or take the Alpine Group Ferry should have a fantastic time. With Canada’s 150th birthday coming up this weekend I expect Sidney Spit will be very busy. Enjoy the walking and soft sand.| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
If you’re fortunate enough to be exploring the Gulf Islands National Park by boat a visit to Russell Island is a must. Located just south of Fulford Harbour on Salt Spring Island, Russell Island has a good anchorage for much of the year. Sandy beaches, long trails and lots of history, what more could you […]| Gulf Islands National Park, British Columbia
