The Book: Tangle of Lies by Patricia Potter| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian
I know we've all been mourning the "death" of historical romance but y'all these posts are getting to be a lot of work for a sub genre apparently in it's death rattle phase. And while I realize some of the books featured this month are with traditional publishers who are dropping contracts, we still are managing to get seventeen books in August - and honestly there's likely a few more floating around out there. These are just the ones that landed in front of my eyeballs and made my "short lis...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian
Y'all I cannot believe it's August and we're over halfway through the 2025 #TBRChallenge. Our next challenge is set for Wednesday, August 20 and this month's option theme is Do the Hustle.| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian

Y'all, my reading mojo has been in the toilet for well over a month now. I'm getting TBR Challenge books read and I've gotten through an audiobook, but I'm not reading. Why? Fatigue, not having the spoons, torn with indecisiveness of what to read next - I mean, it's a lot of things. But I miss reading and I need to kick start my mojo somehow, so I thought a category romance might be in order. When I find a decent one I can inhale the story in one sitting, which is what happened with Reunited ...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian
I finished Treachery on Tenth Street, the third book in Kate Belli's Gilded Gotham historical mystery series weeks ago. As in, early July sometime and y'all I just haven't had the spoons to do much of anything involving my longtime hobby (reading, blogging...) lately. But since I blogged about the first two in the series and I'm about halfway through the final book in the series, well the completist in me started getting twitchy so here we are. This is a tale of two stories for me. There wer...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian

Is there anything better than getting hooked on a series and wanting to glom through the whole thing? Not really. After finally reading the neglected Deception by Gaslight by Kate Belli in my TBR pile, I wasn't letting any moss grow under my feet. I immediately went diving into Book 2, Betrayal on the Bowery. We're back in Gilded Age New York City and girl reporter, Genevieve Steward (now working the society beat for the Globe) and Daniel McCaffrey (raised in Five Points, now incredibly...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian
There's another recent article out about the abandonment of historical romance by traditional publishers and readers and this month's post might be a good place to start if you're sad about that. June brings us 18 (!) Unusual Historical titles to tempt you. If you're sad about the state of the subgenre, maybe put down that romantasy title, try some of these, and talk up the ones that tickled your fancy. Now, do you have a snack? Something to drink? Good - let's get started....| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian
Longtime readers of this blog know certain things about me at this point, having blogged for over 20 years. I hate the fated mates trope with the passion of a thousand burning suns. I'm a champion for category and historical romances. And I have an soft spot for nurse heroines. In fact I love a great nurse heroine more so than a librarian heroine - go figure. So I was pretty excited to learn that Bald-Faced Liar by Victoria Helen Stone features not only a nurse heroine, but a complicated one ...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian

I've largely been offline lately because it's Wendy's Busy Season at The Day Job (end of fiscal year, IYKYK) and my energy levels are such that I'm either staring blankly at the TV or crushing candies on my phone. So have I picked up my #TBRChallenge book, let alone read it yet for June? Ha! But that's why Baby Jesus gave me a cupboard full of Harlequins. I'll get there and I better because our next #TBRChallenge day is set for Wednesday, June 18 and our theme is Road Trip.| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian

Depending on what I think I'm in the mood to read, odds are more than favorable I'm going to find something that fits the bill in my TBR. I figured I was past due for another historical read, so I went diving into my obscene stash of Harlequin Historicals and just randomly picked a title. My blind pick worked out fairly well, given that Terri Brisbin tends to be reliable and The Highlander's Substitute Wife is the first book in a multi-author trilogy. This was a very solid read until it r...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian
Y'all I felt like January was three months long and ever since the year seems to be zipping by. My unheard of, super rare, two planned vacations this year are coming up fast (July and September) and I'm starring down the barrel of end of fiscal year deadlines at work. Also, after a rough slump in late April / early May, I'm hoping to stay inspired and get some reading done through the summer months. Just in time for that? A really interesting crop of Unusual Historicals landing in May, some...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian

One thing the collective we don't talk about enough is how what format you consume a story in can affect your enjoyment of that story, for good or ill. As a long time audiobook listener (cough, cassettes, cough), I learned this very early on. I'll be honest, most narrators land in a middle ground for me. I don't notice them half the time. But the really bad ones? Those stick out. Which brings me to The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Amanda Quick, the first in her Burning Cove series. If I ha...| The Misadventures Of Super Librarian
