Rebecca John just published remarkable new research on DeSmog on how oil companies use donations and sponsorships of art museums, theater productions and even The Girl Scouts and the US Olympic Committee, to promote their brands, improve their reputation, to essentially buy credibility. While this is not a new notion or finding, the evidence in this investigation is quite recent, and previously unreported.| Climate Investigations Center

Honoring here our friend and colleague, Dan Zegart who passed away a couple weeks ago after fighting off the cancer that his doctors discovered about two years ago. It was so sad to watch the disease make him feel so rotten, ravage his fitness, sap his strength, limit his ability to get around town and to travel, to keep working…and it cut into his endurance for one thing he really loved, drumming! Boy he had great rhythm and creativity on a drum set.| Climate Investigations Center
The American Gas Association (AGA) is a trade group representing investor-owned gas utilities and a limited number of publicly owned utilities. AGA opposes electrification and uses its resources to promote gas by advocating for gas-friendly building codes, lobbying Congress and state governments, and commissioning favorable reports. AGA is funded by dues from the member gas utilities, which pass along the vast majority of those costs to customers who pay them in their monthly gas bills. | Climate Investigations Center

Julia Simon of National Public Radio’s climate team published a marvelous story about the Satartia CO2 pipeline accident that aired on NPR’s All Things Considered. The piece drew from Dan Zegart’s 2021 reporting, including 911 emergency calls that Dan collected in early 2020. This is really the first and best national reporting on the Satartia accident since Dan’s Huffington Post piece in August 2021. | Climate Investigations Center

A group of mostly Libertarian, free market, anti-government, anti-regulatory, anti-tax organizations, sent a letter to Representative Kevin McCarthy asking that he disband the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis if Republicans take over the House of Representatives. The Select Committee has produced several massive reports filled with recommendations on climate policy since being formed in 2019.| Climate Investigations Center
Americans for Climate Solutions TV ad in Philadelphia TV Oct 28, 2022When I saw this ad on TV in Philadelphia last week, it immediately caught my eye. I was taping some of the rabid ads between the Fetterman and Oz campaigns and this happened to come on right between them. The first image is of a hurricane from space and the first words on the screen and spoken “Severe Weather”. That got my attention! Could this be a climate ad? In the midst of this chaotic campaign environment leading ...| Climate Investigations Center
