Service blogging today! For a while I’ve been pondering if it would be possible to use the GitHub Packages service to host “generic” files: namely, arbitrary binary artifacts that aren’t necessarily NPM packages, Docker images, etc. Motivated by some of the my current MPC projects, I sat down this week to look into the topic more deeply than I have before. Lo and behold, you can do this! And it isn’t even (that big of) a hack. Warning:I realized that I wrote this blog like some ridi...| PKGW

I’m delighted to be able to share that I’ve been awarded one of five 2025 Better Scientific Software Fellowships by the Better Scientific Software (BSSw) community. It’s very exciting to have BSSw support my efforts to deliver better technical documentation to the world! The BSSw Fellowship Program describes itself as giving “recognition and funding to leaders and advocates of high-quality scientific software.” There’s an annual competition on the basis of a mercifully brief writt...| PKGW

DASCH Data Release 7 (DR7) is imminent. With the scanning complete and the astrometry and photometry fully reprocessed, I’ve been working on finalizing the DR7 data access services. The move to cloud-based data access APIs has been complete success, in my view — not only has it reached feature parity with the existing systems, but it’s unlocked my ability to rapidly deliver useful new features. The most recent example of this is that DASCH’s “colorterm” data are finally accessible...| PKGW
