We have been seeing a lot of Bigg’s killer whale pods hunting harbor porpoise lately. Here is a dramatic video featuring one of those hunts. During this encounter T137A (Jack), and his little sister T137D (Wright) hunted and captured a harbor porpoise in Carr Inlet (south Puget Sound) on July 27. The hunt started with […]| Puget Sound Express
Breach Summer Continues! Our Port Angeles afternoon trip on July 30, 2025 was a fantastic reminder that the best encounters don’t *always* coincide with the best weather. It was a challenging day with both wind and fog, but we headed north with reports of orcas in the Sooke basin (Vancouver Island). It was a choppy […]| Puget Sound Express
On July 27th, our Half Day tour out of Port Townsend witnessed a humpback whale seaweed spa session! This behavior known as “kelping” is seen by many whale species, by rolling around in large floating bull kelp patches the kelp acts as a natural exfoliant for whales and helps remove barnacles and potential parasites. We felt so lucky to see CRC-15970 “Zephyr” playing in the kelp out in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.| Puget Sound Express
Humpbacks – orcas – mountains – sunshine! The glories of summer all in one trip on June 30, 2025. Our afternoon Port Angeles tour had it all with breaching humpbacks, hunting orcas and scenery as far as the eye could see. We started the trip watching the T46B family of Bigg’s orcas with Mt. Baker and the Olympics in the background.| Puget Sound Express
11 orcas, 3 grays, 1 rogue buoy, and shrimpers! It felt like we saw it all on our May 21, 2025 Seattle (Edmonds) half-day tour. 11 Bigg’s killer whales (T124A2s, T124Ds, T100s, T49A2) were together north of Edmonds racing northbound before making a U-turn to take a siesta! Then we passed Sounder gray whale “Thidwick” […]| Puget Sound Express
Chillin’ with the T99s! On May 19, 2025, our Port Townsend Half Day Whale Watching tour circumnavigated Whidbey Island and had a grand time with the T99 family of Bigg’s orcas, who were sedately cruising the shoreline near Holmes Harbor. Prior to that, we encountered two of our “Sounder” gray whales who might be on their way out of the area for the year. Right before Deception Pass, guests were able to see some Navy “Growlers” coming in for landings at NAS Whidbey.| Puget Sound Express
Port Angeles – let’s go see some whales! We’re excited to start our 2025 Port Angeles Whale Watching season on May 10. Our half-day tour departs from Port Angeles Wharf downtown, and from there we head into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, visiting whale hot spots on both sides of the Strait, including Victoria, B.C. and Dungeness Spit. Port Angeles is our western-most departure location (the gateway to Olympic National Park), which puts it in the perfect position to see humpback whales, in ...| Puget Sound Express
Hello San Juan Island! Starting May 1, 2025 we begin service on our All-day San Juan Island Whale Watching Tour. This is our signature tour – the one that started it all decades ago. This tour features a 2 hour lunch stop on Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, making it the perfect trip for […]| Puget Sound Express
On April 18, 2025 our Port Townsend Half-Day Tour journeyed all the way to the Canadian border near Patos Island to find the T36A family of Bigg’s Killer Whales. It was worth the trip – a large grouping was having (ahem) a whale of a time breaching, porpoising and just generally cavorting. It didn’t appear […]| Puget Sound Express
We are often asked: “What’s it like on one of your 3-day cruises?” Great question! Our Director of Crew Operations and Safety Colleen Farrell served as naturalist onboard our April 7-9, 2025 3-Day Olympic Birdfest Birdwatching & Wildlife Cruise. Colleen is one of our most knowledgeable birders, and in 2024 was the first birder to spot a rare juvenile red footed booby in our waters. She took the time to assemble a daily write-up of each day of her trip. Enjoy (and thanks, Colleen!).| Puget Sound Express
