I’m very excited today to be sharing with you an interview with Amy Ting, creator of Curious Papaya. I’m so happy that Amy and her team reached out to me because now I have found a very talented designer that is truly inspirational to me! It turns out that Amy and I have some things in common. We are both elementary school teachers, we both love crochet, and sharing crochet is something we are both passionate about. | Pretty In Crochet
I think many of us get our crochet inspiration from Pinterest. It certainly used to be the first place I used to look for patterns and tips when I was first developing my craft. Nowadays I tend to jump to Ravelry more as I usually have specific patterns in mind, or I check Instagram to see what my favourite designers are creating and crocheting.| Pretty In Crochet
For those of you who are plant lovers, or who love to work up amigurumi, this is the designer interview for you! Samantha is an amazing artist who designs both adorably cute patterns, and ones that are super realistic as well. I first found Samantha on Instagram, and I found her creations really inspirational as they were so realistic and at the same time, so fun too. I really love plants, and Samantha’s patterns allow you to add them to any space where plants might otherwise suffer.| Pretty In Crochet
I have long admired the work of Maisey and Dawn from Me Oh My Crochet. This mother and daughter team create adorable designs using bright colours, the granny square/strip style and a ton of creativity! Every time they pop up on my Instagram feed, I am sucked into scrolling their feed (page?) and seeing what other cute designs they have. And I’m always delighted by the creations of little bags, trinket trays, seasonal items and their amazing eye for colour and detail. | Pretty In Crochet
2025 is upon us, and I feel the need to sit and reflect about what my making and designing to look like this year. To be quite honest, designing is something that comes to me in waves. I have up waves of creativity and want to design new things all of the time, and then I have waves of just wanting to make for the sake of making and even waves where I don’t want to share too much about my making. Some of the extremes in these waves are likely related to also having a job and being the mothe...| Pretty In Crochet
It’s been a while since I wrote a post about my knitting. And that’s because the struggle is real with learning to knit. After learning to purl and knit, I have been made very little progress. I did a fair amount of practicing, tried some things that failed, and kept on knitting…expect when I was crocheting of course, but I felt as though I had reached a bit of a road block and needed to clear my head. You can read all about my misadventures in my Knitting Journey posts. | Pretty In Crochet
I’m back today with another interview with a designer! If you haven’t heard of Crab Abble Crafts, you ought know that Ashtin is a talented designer who prefers to design crochet pieces that are both lovely and of an intermediate level crocheter’s skill. I admire the unique stitch patterns Ashtin uses and have been working on her Ma’s Prairie Shawl in a lovely tweed yarn and loving the way it works up.| Pretty In Crochet
I’ve been a Furls affiliate for a while now, and it’s always fun seeing what new crochet hooks Furls releases throughout the year. I have …| Pretty In Crochet
Today I’m back with a Meet a Designer interview! I had meant to post an interview much sooner in September, but September really kicked my butt and today was the first opportunity I had to share an interview with you, so I hope it’s one you enjoy. | Pretty In Crochet
One of my favourite stitches to work with is the half double crochet. Double crochet can really scream “crochet!” while the half double crochet is …| Pretty In Crochet
Once upon a time, I learned to crochet. And later, I learned that I could crochet beautiful things–if I could read a pattern. But at that time, I didn’t know how to read a pattern, or where I could learn to read a pattern. I had a book someone gave me of crochet patterns, but everything was condensed and looked like a lot of funny short hand with numbers, and whether or not there were diagrams to help, I can’t recall but that book wasn’t helpful for a beginner. | Pretty In Crochet
If you’re on my email list, you know that this has been coming! I have long wanted to have a series of interviews with designers here on the blog. There are so many talented crochet artists and designers out there, and every day I’m stumbling across new and unique crochet creations–granny square blankets, original motifs in patterns or amazing stitches and designs–some of who become accounts and designers I love to follow. | Pretty In Crochet
Let’s talk about the first reason, protecting your stash. Some months ago, Toni Lipsey uploaded a Youtube video about ways to store your stash. And she raised a point I had never considered, which was that bugs can get into your stash. Think moths. Among other creepy crawlies. Insects can eat your stash, lay eggs in it and that’s gross and wasteful.| Pretty In Crochet
