Seems like just a week or so since we got back from worldcon. Nice city, Seattle; I hadn’t been there in ages. And worldcon was a lot of fun. Low key, friendly, a nice mix of old friends and new ones. (And ghosts, too. Too damn many ghosts. Every time I go to a worldcon, […]| Not a Blog

The Wild Cards series goes back a ways. All the way to 1987, when Bantam Spectra released WILD CARDS, volume one of our original triad, which introduced the world to Jetboy, Dr. Tachyon, Golden Boy, Mark Meadows, Gregg Hartmann, the Great and Powerful Turtle, Yeoman, Sewer Jack, Bagabond, and a host of other aces, jokers, […]| Not a Blog
Our adaptation of Howard Waldrop’s short story THE UGLY CHICKENS continues to kick ass and take names out on the film festival circuit. Our latest win came back in March, at the Cinequest festival in San Jose. We were not able to attend that one is person, but Cinequest was good enough to send us […]| Not a Blog
Hope springs eternal, they say… especially for football fans. I have not been paying much attention to the NFL during the offseason. Too many other things to do. Both of my teams did pretty well in the draft, though, so surely they would do better than they did last season, which was dismal to say […]| Not a Blog

I look around, and I don’t know where 2021 went. I blinked and it was gone. Not a year that I am going to mourn much, any more than 2020. A global pandemic, so many deaths (including friends of mine, as well as celebrities of all sorts), politics grown increasingly toxic… it was a year best forgotten. I did, however, get a lot of work done in 2021. An enormous amount of work, in truth; I seem to have an enormous number of projects.| georgerrmartin.com
Another Christmas has come and gone, and the New Year looms just ahead. Where the hell does all the time go?| georgerrmartin.com
It’s been months since Parris and I last went to the movies, but we finally got out of the house last week, and bopped down to the Violet Crown to catch SUPERMAN. I’m glad we did. Supes and I are old friends, and this is one of the best Superman movies in a long time… maybe ever. This new Superman reminds me of the version I used to read about when I was a kid, the strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men....| Not a Blog

Where does the time go? January went by in a flash. I had a lot of posts I wanted to make, a lot of things I wanted to say, I had writing to do, I had zooming to do, meetings to attend, I had scripts to read, notes to give. There was travel, some for business and some for fun. There were friends to mourn, books to blurb. I saw a few good movies and television shows, that gave me some pleasure. The NFL did not. I missed most of the games this season, but that was probably a goo...| georgerrmartin.com
The Saturn Awards were created in 1973 by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, to honor the year’s best work in genre television, film, and home entertainment. They have been given annually ever since. This year’s year’s awards ceremony, the 52nd, was held in the Hilton Universal City in Los Angeles, on February 2.| georgerrmartin.com

We spent a month across the pond last summer, from July 15 to August 15. We started in Belfast and environs, where A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS was being filmed. From there we went on to Amsterdam, where I paid a call on my Dutch publisher, and then London to call on Jane Johnson and the good folks at Voyager, my UK publisher. Oxford was next. The Oxford Writers House had invited me to deliver a talk on fantasy with Philip Pullman, the author of HIS DARK MATERIALS. I was really ...| georgerrmartin.com
We spent Thanksgiving as we usually do, gathering at Melinda Snodgrass’s place in the hills above Lamy to enjoy the company of friends old and new over a sumptuous meal. Turkey, stuffing, deviled eggs, Melinda’s home made nog, a slice or two of apple pie (with cheese, of course). The food was lovely, and it was good to be with friends.| georgerrmartin.com
Oxford is a legendary place. One of the world’s great universities, and the literary capital of England, rich with history, it has figured in more novels than I can count, including many classic works of fantasy. Philip Pullman’s amazing trilogy HIS DARK MATERIAL is set there. So is BABEL, OR THE NECESSITY FOR VIOLENCE, R.F. Kuang’s Nebula-winning bestseller. It was the model for Hogwart’s in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books, and a lot of the Potter films were shot ther...| georgerrmartin.com
