Remember the big trend in adult colouring books? I have always been drawn to these books, loving the complexity of pattern created with simple lines. Some of those lines would make amazing quilt patterns. As soon as I saw the Endeavourer's challenge for February was Texture, I knew I wanted to play with this idea and see what happened. The idea of using this type of doodle quilting to create texture appealed to me.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
Hello everyone and welcome. If you have not stopped by before my name is Ruth and I write about my quilty makes, pattern design, art quilt attempts and quite often about our dogs. We are a Basset Hound and Jack Russell Terrier house in Limerick, Ireland and are very happy to meet you here on our space of the web today for Benita's Meet and Greet Party.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
It's reveal day on the Endeavourer's blog, the results of our latest challenge: Spiral. I've written about the ideas I had and rejected, and why I chose the one I made for my project over there, so pop over to have a read if you like. In this blog post, I thought I'd talk about the way I made my piece and some of the construction issues I had!| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
The Rainbow Rose got an outing! Every year there is a quilt exhibition in Limerick called River of Dreams and anyone can enter a quilt. I thought it might be nice to put in the Rainbow Rose as it was only shown previously in Birmingham at the Festival of Quilts. Nice to get another chance to show off Tomomi's fabulous quilting!| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
Wow it's July already! Happy 4th to all my family and friends in the States. I spent two 4th of July's stateside in my lifetime and I think of them as happy ice-cream and fireworks day! Having a national holiday in the middle of the summer, where you can sit by the water enjoying the celebrations with family chilling out, really makes for the best days.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
This month, the Endeavourer's challenge is Change or Transformation. I've had that kicking around in the back of my head these past weeks so, when mum was throwing out some old lampshades, I thought hang on, I'll have a go at upcycling them. | Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner

Last year, I answered a call for quilters who wanted to take part in quarterly challenges and push themselves to try new things. The idea was to have some fun, learning and playing with fabric together, through themes randomly chosen. I was delighted to see names of quilty friends and those new to me on the groups blog page : The Endeavourers. There are 14 of us taking part and encouraging each other in our explorations. | Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
No chocolate crunchie bars on hand this Friday - I have to admit being all sugared out at this stage and looking forward to getting back to normal. I did manage to sit at the sewing machine for a very small time this week and get my Home is Where the Dog Is quilt top finished! To be fair it was all done bar sewing the rows together.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
I couldn't tell you where the month of December has gone! It has been an upsy downsy month with flu (the entire family!), bulging disk in my back, lots of birthdays and the mad Christmas dash that always seems to happen no matter how well I think I have everything in hand. | Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
Keeping up a blog relies as much on habit as it does on making things to show but sometimes, the time it takes to write up a blog post, is lost to fun things like visiting family home for a month, secret sewing projects for new classes & workshops, designs for publication and guild work and the not so fun things like cleaning the house, reactions to the flu jab and ironing the clothes!| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
A few weeks ago I gave the Ticker Tape workshop I developed from my Wilbur scrap quilt to the Western Branch of the Irish Patchwork Society in Galway. This was my third time giving this workshop and I have been adding to the templates for people to try. I used the guitar as a teaching piece and am working on a sketch of a West Highland Terrier for one of the ladies in my own branch, the Mid-Western Branch in Limerick.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
One of the last activities for Modern Quilters Ireland is our Modern Irish Bee. This year, our group of 9 have been making big blocks for each other 18 ½" in size. There have been lots of half square triangle blocks which are fun to scale up to big sizes.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
This summer the Modern Quilters Ireland Group closed but there are two activities still ongoing for the rest of the year. Our summer swap and Modern Irish Bee are the last makes and we are going out with a bang! The swap item chosen for 2017 was the Goody Binding Kit by Leila's Boutique. This was a really fun thing to make and not that difficult. | Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
While I was having a cuppa at a break while visiting the Dublin branch of our guild we had a chat about WIP's and unfinished quilts. One lady had 8 blocks made and suffering from repetitive block hell was struggling to make just one more and as you couldn't do much with just 8 blocks. Well that got me thinking! So I started playing with 5 blocks...| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner

It was a happy sad week last week and I'm only starting to come around to myself again this week now. We had the awfulness of sending Wilbur to sleep and then I left straight away, for the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, with friends from the Irish Patchwork Society.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
Yesterday morning we had to say goodbye to Wilbur. Crikey even writing those words is hard.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner

Every two years the Irish Patchwork Society and the Northern Ireland Patchwork Guild have a co-exhibition called Hands Across the Border. This year the theme was Aurora and being chairperson of the IPS I had to make a speech! | Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
The Thriver podcast caught my eye last week with the text "If you try to do everything all at the same time, all you are doing is setting yourself up for a burn out". That stuck with me as it resonated a bit with how I'd been feeling this year, with so much going on. If you haven't listened to Jess Van Den's podcasts on running a creative business before you can find them here. I like them a lot!| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
I think I might have a little fabric problem! Yes, I definitely have too much fabric but that's not the problem.| Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner
