Every fall, an unusually colorful and delicate scene unfolds on Kresge Lawn: the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch—an annual fundraiser for the W. David Kingery Ceramics and Glass Lab, part of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Founded in 1986, the MIT Glass Lab teaches community members the art of glassblowing. Students and instructors create a garden of pumpkins and squashes in every size and shade, as well as thousands of other works of art each year.| facts.mit.edu
