I have struggled getting Cuda, NVCC, and the cuda-samples project running on my computer, so I am writing this to help others. Installing NVIDIA drivers As someone that uses the professional CUDA blackwell cards, I am required to use the NVIDIA open kernel module. It works for both gaming and professional cards. I would advise you to use it as the closed source kernel module will eventually be deprecated. sudo dnf install rpmfusion-nonfree-release # make sure rpmfusion non-free is enabled sud...| Level1Techs Forums
Ignoring the failed attempts that never lasted more than a few days, I first started really using Linux on a daily basis in the form of CentOS 5.x for servers. The desktop was functional for work purposes but not for daily personal use. Tested Ubuntu desktop, was not bad but they switched to Unity around the time and for some reason I really disliked that interface. And since I was working with CentOS and RHEL servers on a daily basis, it became natural to go with Fedora. XFCE spin because I ...| Level1Techs Forums
I wonder if the hysteria will result in our government requiring every gpu in the US to be registered and licensed (like a gun).| Level1Techs Forums
Hi everyone, I have recently experienced image corruption in uploads on some pictures I have uploaded to the forums. Here are some examples: It’s not entirely clear from this screenshot when everything is shrunk down, but the corrupted images have vertical stripe patterns in the same few colors across the entirety of the image, like the green one on the top. (the process of scaling them down makes some of them appear like solid colors when they are not) The images themselves (prior t...| Level1Techs Forums
Hi all, I’m looking to build a new gaming rig. I’m putting the pcpartpicker link below. I’ll be using the same case and will be upgrading the video card in a few months. Right now it’s a gtx1660. Switching from Intel to AMD as I’ve heard it’s more bang for your buck. Thanks for any help or recs.| Level1Techs Forums
This just showed up in my Steam library. I’ve been wanting to go back and play these so badly, but my early onset arthritis makes it difficult to play with keyboard/mouse. I’m so happy that they added controller support! I used to play this at my friend’s house across the street when my mom and I moved into our house when I was 10 (30 years ago). That friend moved away, but I remember these games so well. NEW levels, too. I’m excited to sit down and run through this again. ❤ ...| Level1Techs Forums
Hi everyone, sorry for the long post, but I couldn’t figure out how to shorten it, while keeping all the info. I was recently thinking about setting up a local gaming vm server, with pcie-passthrough to essentially allow for two people to play some less demanding games at once on one pc. The problem is, I have a single rtx 3070 ti in my rig, and I’m not determined enough to buy a second gpu just for that. I’ve read about gpu partitioning / vgpus, and assumed it could solve my issues. No...| Level1Techs Forums

Hi everyone, I’m experiencing a persistent host memory leak when using the Looking Glass client, which only resolves after manually dropping caches. I’m hoping someone can help me diagnose the cause. Here my system and environment Host OS: Nixos unstable Host Kernel: Linux 6.16.1 Guest OS: Windows 11 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X RAM: 32GB GPU: Nvidia 5060 Ti 16GB with driver version 580.76.05 on NixOS 581.08 on the Windows 11 VM Looking Glass B7 (both on the host and guest) The Looking Glass c...| Level1Techs Forums
Background When I built my gaming PC I decided not to use any mechanical storage, and instead only have a single 240gb (this was 4 or 5 years ago) SSD. This was party because I needed to remove all the drive cages to fit a large 200mm fan in the front of the case, but also because I had a NAS server already and figured I could use that for all my storage and only have small SSDs in my other machines. Obviously 240gb is not a lot of space for games so my method of dealing with that was to ins...| Level1Techs Forums
