Following in the footsteps of Rook over at Foreign Planets, I have delved into the mists of pulp fantasy history to cobble together even more lost books of Appendix N. The picture that's taken form by now is one of a polyvocal document that evolved in stages during the early rpg period. Gygax wielded (I swear every time this word should be "welt") considerable influence over the later stages of the list, and so many of the works listed below were cut because they no longer fit with the game's...| Throne of Salt

Think about it. The neat, overly-tidy cosmology that doesn't quite make sense. The leaps in logic required to fit elements into an organizational schema that can’t support them. The reduction of complex natural systems into humanocentric moral binaries. The constriction of a vast and unknown cosmos into a well-delineated puzzle box where every component is named, categorized, and understood. Inventing components whole cloth to make the components work within a pre-existing framework.| Throne of Salt

Since I have finally managed to get a couple posts out on my PIE conlang, I figured I might as well do a roundup of all the other ideas swirling around in my head. Some of these are decently sketched out, some are just idle musings that will never see the light of day, some are somewhere in the middle.| Throne of Salt
A couple nights ago, as the Youtube algorithm flailed desperately in an attempt to parse my viewing history into something advertisers can understand, I was recommended a video with maybe 200 views about a pulp science fiction author named Leslie F. Stone. I'd never heard of her before, but "sci-fi author I have never heard of" + "public domain" is a guaranteed way to get my attention. So I brought up her Wikipedia page and started digging.| Throne of Salt
The blame for this can fall squarely on the Maniculum for introducing me to Sidrak and Bokkus, a medieval text wherein a Babylonian king named Bokkus (or Boctus, or Boccus…) asks several hundred questions to the philosopher Sidrak (or Sidrach, or Sydrac…) who provides some absolutely bonkers medieval-logic answers. | Throne of Salt
