The OSMETA GK01 offers outstanding performance at a fraction of the cost of a Thunderbolt eGPU, and is a far more refined M.2 solution than the fixed-cable offerings from ADT-Link. If your system has a spare M.2 port and you are willing to modify the bottom panel of the device, you can create an outstanding external graphics card solution that is affordable, versatile and unrestricted by bandwidth bottlenecks. Furthermore, the continued popularization and adaptation of OCuLink by laptop manuf...| eGPU.io
The TH3P4 has some excellent features. It is extremely small, enables the use of cheap and portable DC power supplies and contains the elusive ability to daisy-chain Thunderbolt devices with the eGPU itself being the first device in the chain. The inclusion of the superior JHL7440 Thunderbolt Controller was a welcome surprise in such an affordable device. However, the design and complete lack of bracing for attached devices leaves much to be desired from an otherwise welcome addition to the m...| eGPU.io
The Wikingoo eGPU is a pleasant addition to the eGPU market. As a standalone unit, it is priced well below the popular eGPU enclosures from big brands. The inclusion of a standard ATX power supply mount is excellent. ATX power supplies are cheap and readily available, or even able to be recycled for free from old systems. Furthermore, there are no limitations to graphics card size or power delivery, and the open case can be used as is, mounted under a desk or be modified into a sealed enclosure.| eGPU.io
The short answer is No, unfortunately. Apple has had plenty of time to work on ARM64 drivers for Radeon cards, but they decided not to pursue that path. Following the announcement of new MacBook Pros, there’s a macOS update 12.0.1 [21A558]. I installed it on my 2020 M1 Mac mini [unboxing & teardown]. The eGPU icon remains missing [M1 Mac discussion]. Radeon driver support is an obligation for Intel Macs only, mainly the Mac Pro. Both Intel and AMD have becoming more direct competitors than ...| eGPU.io
For the longest time, Microsoft had opted to exclude Thunderbolt connectivity from its Surface hardware lineup. I came close to purchasing a 28″ Surface Studio two years ago but the lack of Thunderbolt 3 was a deal breaker. Today’s release of the Surface Laptop Studio (SLS) and Surface Pro 8 (SP8) is significant. With Thunderbolt 4 support, they can now access Thunderbolt eGPU enclosures and a vast amount of other high bandwidth peripherals. eGPU + Surface Laptop Studio As soon as I unb...| eGPU.io
Microsoft released the first Insider Build of Windows 11 (22000.51) earlier this week. To be receiving this build, you’d need to enroll in the Dev Channel of Windows Insider Program. That was only one of the prerequisites. Amongst the minimum system requirements is TPM 2.0. This is a questionable barrier and most likely imposed by OEMs to promote new hardware sales. It also negatively effects Intel Macs because Apple firmware does not support TPM. Fortunately, there are ways to trick the Wi...| eGPU.io
As soon as the M1 Mac mini arrived, I tore it down to confirm a few things Apple didn’t make clear. All M1 Macs come with Thunderbolt 4 ports. I prepared my Mac mini test station with three monitors: Samsung 34-in Thunderbolt 3 ultrawide QHD, LG 27-in DisplayPort UHD, and ASUS 15-in portable USB-C FHD. This setup has been working great through RX Vega 56 Nano Gaming Box with my 2018 i5 Mac mini. The Apple integrated graphics card cannot run more than two displays at once.| eGPU.io
Announced in July 2020, Thunderbolt 4 laptops with Tiger Lake CPU are becoming available. The two configurations I’ve been looking for are i7-1165G7 and i7-1185G7 with iGPU only. Best Buy started selling the HP Spectre X360 [15-eb1043dx] earlier this week and I got one yesterday. Thanks to the 15-in footprint and no dGPU, the cooling system is working surprisingly well. The CPU is set at 28W and can run consistently at 3.3GHz and temps hovering around low 70s Celsius. I let AIDA64 System St...| eGPU.io
