With the Bluray release just over a month away, we now have confirmation of exactly what's packed in to those 19 shiny discs. Firstly, with regards to the episodes themselves, the TOS update is keen to emphasise that the extent of the re-mastering this time around is to upscale the video, clean up any damage and polish up the colour grade, rather than making any significant changes to the overall show. They note that there's no change| Ganymede & Titan

Doug Naylor's debut children's novel, Sin Bin Island, was released last week and is now officially launched, following last night's event at Waterstone's Piccadilly. Doug was interviewed by S.F. Said, best-selling author and stablemate at publisher David Fickling Books, then took questions from the audience and stuck around to sign books afterwards. In attendance were Red Dwarf alumni such as producer Richard Naylor and casting director Linda Glover - how lovely that they've all kept in tou...| Ganymede & Titan
Here's an incredible find that was first brought to our attention by Tom Selway on Twitter at the start of August, just a few days after it surfaced on YouTube. We immediately sprung in to action, opening our to-do list and pencilling it in for September's G&TV. Which would have been fine if things like TORDFC's newsletter and reddwarf.co.uk didn't exist, both of which have featured it in the meantime. Nevertheless, it's well worth sharing in case those two passed any of you by, as it's not e...| Ganymede & Titan
Yesterday, Doug Naylor did an AMA on Reddit, primarily to promote Sin Bin Island, but as you'd probably expect, not least because it took place on the Red Dwarf subreddit, there was a heavily Dwarfy tinge to the conversation. Our community did a lovely job of highlighting all the interesting bits on our forum, but there was one particular answer that deserves closer scrutiny. On the topic of the rumoured new special, Doug said: Back in January 2023, I went in for a meeting with UKTV who sa...| Ganymede & Titan

As is now traditional in the post-TOS world, we have once again learned of a new Red Dwarf product via the medium of someone from the G&T community happening to spot it for sale somewhere. In this case, it was Si who alerted us to an audiobook release of the television soundtracks of Series 1-VIII. As someone who used to balance a tape recorder in front of the TV so that I could listen to my favourite episodes on my Walkman on the rare occasions I was forced to leave the house, I can definite...| Ganymede & Titan
Repetition, Running Gags and Callbacks in Red Dwarf We're once again opening our doors to long term G&T regular Dave, bringing us his latest deep analysis of one of the show's core elements. Like all sitcoms of a certain age, Red Dwarf has a tendency to repeat itself from time to time. I’m not talking about in-the-moment repetition like the White Hole sequence that gives this article its title, or the Terrorform gag about Kryten’s short-term memory being erased – those are deliberate ...| Ganymede & Titan

Red Dwarf's attitude towards real world references has fluctuated over the years. In the early days, Rob and Doug were keen to invent their own futuristic pop culture - Mugs Murphy, rastabilly skank, the London Jets - intertwined with more contemporary references to the likes of Kevin Keegan, Felicity Kendal and Ishtar. Generally speaking, the focus then shifted to historical figures, or those whose fame is international and timeless, your Wilma Flintstones, your Jane Austens, and of course,...| Ganymede & Titan

Twenty years ago today, Red Dwarf VII debuted on BBC Two. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Red Dwarf had been away for over three years, having previously managed to average out as an annual event for six series. The delay was mainly caused by three monumental behind-the-scenes events: Chris Barrie deciding to leave the show; Craig Charles being held on remand on a charge from which he was ultimately cleared; and Grant Naylor splitting as a gest...| Ganymede & Titan
It's the best episode of Red Dwarf of all time. Undefeated in all four of our anniversary polls so far, more often than not the winner of other wide-ranging surveys by the Smegazine and Better Than Life, and even given a special BBC2 repeat screening under the title The Best Ever Red Dwarf. It happened to be the first episode I ever saw, probably the one I've rewatched the most, and quite possibly the single piece of media in the entire history of human civilisation that I'm most familiar wi...| Ganymede & Titan
Previously on G&TV, we looked at Smegheads in Seattle, a 1998 production by KCTS 9, Seattle's local PBS station. They'd arranged a visit from Craig Charles and Danny John-Jules, who came over to be interviewed, take part in pledge drives and meet the show's many fans in the north-west corner of the US / the south-west corner of Canada. But Smegheads in Seattle was actually the second such programme produced by the station, a sequel of sorts to 1997's Swirly Thing Alert, which featured much th...| Ganymede & Titan
