A rainy day leads to an attempt to give a 2020 look to some old 90s software I love: a macos Big Sur look for WindowMaker. Obviously running on OpenBSD here but this is not mandatory. OS: OpenBSD 6.8-current WM: WindowMaker with WhiteSur inspired style Wallpaper: The Beach-5 GTK theme: WhiteSur light solid Icon theme: WhiteSur Cursor theme: DMZ Vanilla Applications: Firefox, Thunar, Thunderbird, KeePassXC, XTerm, WPrefs, wmmon, wmapm, wmCalClock| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I got myself a TECLAST F7 Plus laptop. It comes preinstalled with Windows 10 but I planned to use it as my daily driver. So I installed OpenBSD 6.8 on it.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
WireGuard is a new coming to OpenBSD 6.8 and it looks like a simple and efficient way to connect computers. I own a few VPS (hello Vultr, hello OpenBSD.amsterdam) that tend to be connected through filtered public services and/or SSH tunnels. And that’s neither efficient nor easy to manage. Here comes the wg(4) era where all those peers will communicate with a bit more privacy and ease of management.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I already run Domoticz using a Synology package and a couple of docker containers. But this is complicated to maintain. And the Syno App doesn’t seem to be updated frequently. Not being said the management of the USB sticks is quite random. So I decided to get myself a Raspberry Pi 4 and run everything from there.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I own laptops with a French keyboard. And when my Cloud servers reboot for maintenance, I have to enter their FDE passphrase. This is done by some VNC-like stuff that don’t work well with non-US layout keyboard. Here’s a few minimalistic options to switch keyboard layout on OpenBSD.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
Collectd is already grabbing statistics from my services and drop them into InfluxDB so that I can get pretty graphes with Grafana. One thing I miss is a single page that shows the overall status for all those systems ; somehow also known as Status Page.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I am migrating a bunch of services from my Synology to OpenBSD ; DHCP Server being one of them. I have configured quite a few DHCP reservations over time. And I would like a better way to migrate them to dhcpd(8) than copy & paste ; or rewrite from scratch.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I just got myself a PC Engines APU4D4. I miss an OpenBSD box providing home services. It’s quite simple to install and run OpenBSD on this machine. And you can even update the BIOS from OpenBSD.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I’ve been monitoring DSM Universal Search for quite a long time now. And what I noticed that it often fails. Therefor, searching CIFS from the macOS Finder often ends not using the preprocessed data ; hear it’s damn slow. So I decided to just turn it off. But when using Drive, it’s not that simple using DSM. You have to use the console.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
My X260 only runs OpenBSD and has no CD driver. But I still need to upgrade its BIOS from time to time. And this is possible using the ISO BIOS image.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I’ve been using 1Password as a password manager for quite so time. The database was on my iCloud account so I could only use it with MacOS and iOS. But it was Free. Now that AgileBits Inc switched to subscription-based, I can’t really upgrade my apps… Time to look for something else. Strongbox + KeePass seemed nice. But I found issues when accessing the same DB from mobile and laptop. Another option is Bitwarden. It’s Open Source, available on many platforms and clients… and it can...| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
Linky is a “smart electricity meter” from the French power grid operator Enedis. One nice thing about this device is that it automatically reports your electricty consumption. By polling the operator’s portal, one can fetch back its own data. And if the data are then stored in InfluxDB, one can keep a pretty look on its power consumption.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I ordered an opinionated VM on OpenBSD Amsterdam . And as any “Cloud” instances, it deserves Full Disk Encryption.| 2020 on TuM'Fatig
I run an OpenBSD instance with encrypted root on Vultr VPS since v6.2. It has never been reinstalled. I only used the OpenBSD native upgrade methods. Using 6.5, I used sysupgrade(8). And it went as smooth as expected.| www.tumfatig.net
These days, I try to use simple and stock software as much as possible on my OpenBSD laptop. I’ve been playing with cwm(1) for weeks and I was missing a status bar. After trying things like Tint2, Polybar etc, I discovered @gonzalo’s termbar . Thanks a lot! As I love scripting, I decided to build my own.| www.tumfatig.net
