Thank you all so much for your well wishes last week! Move in day was a piece of cake; in well under 2 hours we had everything put away/in place in this room and bathroom and left the kitchen for him and his roommates to deal with (we did take him to a late lunch first though). He was off without a good-bye or a backwards glance! LOL. You know he's ready to be on his own then. | Slices of Life
After our first month here I was on such a good roll.. until I forgot to pick up my box! Then we had a few boxes where the produce wasn't that great. The corn was real tiny and quite pale, our tomatoes were often split open and two boxes in a row the eggplant was rotten inside. I've heard it's been a rough growing season were we're either getting so much rain and lots of cool weather or it's pure sunshine with temps in the 90's and no rain for weeks on end. | Slices of Life
My garden tends to show off the most in late spring and early summer. By mid- July/ beginning of August there isn't much color left anywhere. But those explosions of color at the start of July really make up for it! | Slices of Life
It's the third Thursday of the month and time for another ageless style challenge. This month Bo picked back to school/ transitioning summer to fall. Since I'm not heading back to school I focused more on transitioning an outfit from summer into fall. | Slices of Life
I love fresh basil and use it often all summer long. I try to keep a plant going on our deck and snip leaves from it to make pesto, make salad dressing, and make my favorite pizza-- a margherita pizza! I think most recipes are best with fresh ingredients so in the summer when fresh basil and garden fresh tomatoes are ready I love to cook up this simple pizza. | Slices of Life

We can already tell fall is on the way; even though most days this week it still reached into the 90's our mornings start out in the 50's and 60's. We are in full on college prep mode here as we prepare to drop Alec off this weekend-- another sure sign fall is right around the corner. I have no idea how drop off will go since he can't move in until noon and has a mandatory meeting at 3 (last year it took us from 10 am until nearly 3 to get him settled and he didn't have a full kitchen to un...| Slices of Life
Last Tuesday, August 8th, both Evan and Alec were home and the weather was supposed to be fairly nice. With mild temps, light breezes, and just a bit of cloud cover (from the Canadian wildfires; not a storm) it seemed like the perfect time to head to the botanical gardens. Evan had been asking if we'd make another trip this summer and time is running out. The boys, my mom, and I spent a lovely day exploring the gardens. We didn't even cover 1/2 of the trails! | Slices of Life
I love making kabobs in the summer and a month or so ago I wanted to make some shrimp kabobs for my husband and I but knew the boys would rather have beef or chicken. I had some stew beef left in the freezer but knew if I was going to use that I needed a nice acidic marinade to help tenderize the beef. I had lots of fresh basil I had just picked and made pesto with and thought I could whip up an easy citrus/basil marinade. | Slices of Life
Joanne Tracey over at Brookford Kitchen Diaries has started up a monthly cookbook club and the rules such as they are are loose enough that it's easy to follow along and participate. This month we were asked to find a cookbook published in our own country.| Slices of Life

Happy Tuesday! It's time for another Talking About it Tuesday party. I hope you have had a fabulous week and weekend since we last "talked." I sure did. Our weather has been beautiful and we enjoyed a day at the botanical gardens, a lovely kayak ride, a very informative college tour, and lots of time spent outdoors. I don't know what we'll do this week but I sure hope it will be fun too. | Slices of Life
The boys and I have been waiting all summer to go to Southwick's zoo. They had announced earlier this spring that new baby cheetahs had been born and we could not wait to see them.. but they were kept off exhibit for several weeks while they grew and were cared for. | Slices of Life

It's the first Wednesday of the month and time for the Currently link up with Jenn. This month we're talking about what we're currently loving, looking forward to, scheduling, buying, and gearing up for. I really struggled with these prompts this month! | Slices of Life

Happy Tuesday and happy August to you all. I hope the new month is treating you well. We have been having beautiful weather this week-- sunny and in the 80's! I was hoping to go on a few excursions with the boys but Alec happily picked up lots of extra shifts this week so Evan and I hope to do some fun things closer to home like kayak and hike and maybe get some ice cream. We'll see.. How is your week going? | Slices of Life
