Humanities and arts faculty and graduate students at UGA continued to showcase the world-class quality of their research, teaching, and public engagement during the 2024-25 academic year, collecting nationally competitive fellowships and awards, publishing books ranging from academic monographs to fiction and poetry, mounting acclaimed exhibitions, and distinguishing themselves in innumerable other ways. Tracey Johnson, assistant professor of history and African American studies and a Willson Center associate academic director, is the subject of an in-depth profile recently published by the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. Johnson’s research explores the roles art and museums can play in liberation movements, and how “art as an educational tool influences culture and history.”| Willson Center for Humanities and Arts
An exhibition of works from a new series of landscape photographs by Michael Lachowski, alongside a photo series of clouds, is currently on display at the Willson Center. The exhibition is open to the public during business hours (9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday), but those interested in viewing the show are advised to email Winnie Smith (wsmith78@uga.edu) or Dave Marr (davemarr@uga.edu) to confirm that the gallery space will be open and not in use before visiting. The Willson Center for Humanities and Arts and the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will welcome the renowned conductor and orchestra director Robert Spano to UGA and Atlanta March 21-24, 2025 as the Willson Center’s annual Delta Visiting Chair for Global Understanding. Spano’s visit, which will include two public talks on campus and a workshop for UGA student composers with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, is part of the Willson Center’s Global Georgia public event series.| Willson Center for Humanities and Arts
