A few TeamNewPipe members attended FrOSCon on 16–17 of August 2025, read about our experience here! Also, let us know if you’re interested in getting paid for working on NewPipe and its infrastructure.| NewPipe Blog
This version brings support for Android Auto integration and allows you to add feed groups as a tab on the main page. Multiple improvements and fixes to the YouTube and SoundCloud implementations were made, and progress on the refactor continues steadily. Oh, and you can meet the team at FrOSCon!| NewPipe Blog
TLDR: NewPipe 0.27.6 fixes the YouTube issues by performing the integrity checks now required by Google; NewPipe is being refactored heavily on the refactor branch and you can help and provide feedback on a nightly version; NewPipe will soon have a new completely rewritten player; the NewPipe team is struggling to keep up with the project’s demands due to dwindling free time of its members.| NewPipe Blog
TLDR: the NewPipe e.V. will pay Schabi to work on NewPipe during the summer of 2024. He is tasked with rewriting the player, as part of the refactoring process announced a year ago.| NewPipe Blog
As the year comes to a close, it’s an opportune moment to reflect on the journey of NewPipe over the past year and to cast a glance toward the project’s future.| NewPipe Blog
We cannot believe it either - a new update bringing channel tabs, next to lots of features and fixes, AND we have the blog post out in time? To find out more about this crazy era we live in, read on!| NewPipe Blog
Hey look! We were only lagging a couple months behind the app this time, not a whole release cycle! That’s progress! Look at us! :D| NewPipe Blog
Dear fellow NewPipers, The money that had been accumulating on NewPipe’s Bountysource account is no longer accessible to me (Schabi). As a result, the project has lost about €6,400 worth of awarded bounties.| NewPipe Blog
Update 13th July: The DMCA notice was rescinded with no further comment. Our landing page appears to be listed in Google's search results again.| NewPipe Blog
Well well well. Look at us getting a new release out. We have not really done this in a while, have we? Let’s see if we’ve still got it.| NewPipe Blog
So, YouTube channel videos up and vanished, and even refreshing the feed didn’t get them back. That’s never a good sign, so we went looking for them and found the slippery little things. Make sure you tie them properly to the fence next time. Put the bell icon around their necks. Might help, or so we’ve heard from several popular YouTubers ad nauseam.| NewPipe Blog
Hey peeps. We’re dropping support for Android KitKat, and bumping the minimum supported version to Lollipop, as was announced on the repo months ago.| NewPipe Blog
Yeah yeah, we get it. You don’t need to scream yourself hoarse. This release is just as late as the previous one. But we have great news! Playing videos will now be smooth again!| NewPipe Blog
The gist: NewPipe-Legacy isn’t maintained anymore (since January 2021, actually). The team is hoping for a developer to step up and become a permanent maintainer for the Legacy version. This means that you, the user, either need to switch to a device with a newer OS so that you can use NewPipe, or to an alternative app that supports your Android version. At least for the time being.| NewPipe Blog
This release got delayed by quite a bit, and so it just grew and grew and grew. You’re getting a truly massive release to make up for the long wait. Be ready for a whopper of a blog post!| NewPipe Blog
Why is there a new release only six days after the previous one? Well, don’t expect anything big… just a few adjustments to the previous version and some long-awaited bugfixes for lists! That’s what you would expect from a point release, according to semantic versioning, but we have never been that good at choosing release numbers. Sorry about that. Before starting with the changelog, let us dedicate a brief moment to the suffering of Ukrainian people. We sincerely hope this cruel war w...| NewPipe Blog
Oh wow, would you look at the time! Happy new year from the NewPipe team! We are “starting 2022 off” with some great additions: YouTube-like rewind/fast-forward, pinned comments, and searchable preferences! Apart from these, we have a bucket-load of fixes and improvements that will hopefully make your NewPipe experience better than ever.| NewPipe Blog
Hello, did you order a hot fix update? Because we have one here, it is steaming and ready.| NewPipe Blog
This release has been baking for quite a while, hasn’t it? We’ve all been busy with real life, and the world moved on in the meantime. So this release brings you both several new features and some much needed bug fi - “SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG” - xes, excuse us, such as for YouTube’s removal of dislikes, which caused a snackbar error on every YouTube video, and for PeerTube’s new short URLs, which are the new default since v3.3.0. We also have some quality-of-life fixes, like a...| NewPipe Blog
Uhm yeah… we’d like to check something, but Android did not allow us to do so, but now it does! Time for a quick fix! Edit: Make that 2 quick fixes.| NewPipe Blog
This release is a hot fix one. You can import settings again, the long press menu got a new button with which you can now queue media directly after the current one and many changes to buttons. So many buttons. Like loads of buttons.| NewPipe Blog
This release brings you working imports from your YouTube subscriptions export through Google Takeout, an “Always go into full screen” toggle when you play a video via the main player (welcome back, you were sorely missed, auto full screen!), a new Invidious instance, and so much more, that you basically have to read on.| NewPipe Blog
Hi. This release is definitely worth checking out. We are talking thumbnail previews when seeking on YouTube, hearts from YouTube channels on comments, a proper UI for disabled YouTube comments as well as other improved sections of the UI, and so much more. Read on to find out!| NewPipe Blog
Hi! We skipped doing a blog post for the last hotfix release (version 0.21.7) because it was quite tiny. So we’ve added the changes from that version here. As a bonus, you get some other much needed fixes and a MAJOR API improvement for YouTube that we’ve been waiting for eagerly! Enjoy.| NewPipe Blog
Today brings you 0.21.6, and hopefully much joy. We made slight improvements to the UI of our app: You now get notified about deleted channels upon opening them, or when refreshing your feed, and you can instantly search hashtags given in video descriptions. NewPipe also properly supports the Storage Access Framework, which allows you to save your downloads to an external storage medium (such as an SD Card) if you so desire!| NewPipe Blog
“What?”, you exclaim. “A new update? And it’s not even a hotfix? But we had the last update just a few days ago!” Well, deal with it. B) (For the millenials, B) is the cool sunglasses emoji that your parents used in the pre-Unicode era.) Don’t get used to it, though. This is still a volunteer project being done in everyone’s free time. This indeed isn’t a hotfix. And it isn’t even a minor update! We actually bring you another main user-facing feature: content metadata! Now y...| NewPipe Blog
You want another update? We have another update. Welcome to version 0.21.3, where nothing extraordinarily exciting happened. But hey, you can move NewPipe to your SD card now, and you get some quality of life changes as well as bug fixes, which is also nice, isn’t it? So take a relaxing cup of tea and read through this blog post about relaxing changes. Relax. Deep breaths. Hot tea. And let’s guide you through the changes.| NewPipe Blog
We have provided more details below, but if you do not need/care about this or already know what this is about, here is a TL;DR: NewPipe has an active IRC channel where developers and users chat and ask/answer questions. This channel has been moved from freenode to the brand new Libera.Chat network. We no longer provide a channel on freenode, and urge you to leave that network as soon as possible. This is the new address of the official NewPipe IRC channel: #newpipe:libera.chat You can join u...| NewPipe Blog
Here’s another point release for our lovely users. This release refines Bandcamp support, lays the groundwork for an upcoming feature, and adds many little quality-of-life improvements and fixes that we think quite a few users will have reason to be happy about. Also, if you want to use SoundCloud, you need to update to this release.| NewPipe Blog
This is a hotfix release to bypass the new YouTube consent page shown to users in the European Union. The workaround used for this is not guaranteed to work forever, though. It may be deprecated soon. The team is working to find a proper long-term solution to the problem. For the non-EU users: Carry on! Nothing to see here.| NewPipe Blog
The European Commission (EC), represented by Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age, and Team NewPipe jointly organized a hackathon to develop new healthcare solutions, as announced on our social media accounts. Make way for the MVP! Welcome to a brand new release of NewPipe! We fed NewPipe lots of Rare Candies, and after quite a long while, NewPipe learned an awesome new attack: Bandcamp! This was added by @fynngodau, who patiently waited for a year and some months it took us to review, test, forget, double-review, double-test and merge his changes. Please check it out and tell us if you encounter any bugs! Note: Not everything is working yet (such as fan pages and comments), but the essentials are ...| NewPipe Blog
Welcome to the first hotfix release of 2021 - let us hope it will be the last one. This release fixes SoundCloud, receiving some YouTube content, an app crash and brings you a new translation.| NewPipe Blog
Long time no see! We were busy behind the scenes, and can now present you quite a few new features as well as the usual tranche of bug fixes and improvements. First and foremost, though, two more developers have joined Team NewPipe. Welcome, @XiangRongLin and @vkay94!| NewPipe Blog
You might have guessed it from the title already. The new release 0.20.8 implements support for the media.ccc.delive stream system. That’s it! Keep moving, nothing else to see here! Well, not really. Keep reading for more information as well as some screenshots.| NewPipe Blog
Merry Christmas, if you celebrate that, and almost Happy New Year, if you use a calendar at least close to the Gregorian one. We want to present you a little gift as a good way to start 2021 AD/CE (or the year 12021 in the Human Era, according to Kurzgesagt): The next release of NewPipe. It comes with a lot of improvements, fixes, and even a big new feature. So let us dive into this release post!| NewPipe Blog
Starting today, we have changed our blog’s comment system. In this post, we explain what we changed, why we did so, and how this affects you as a loyal reader. TL;DR: We introduce a simple set of rules, as well as moderation.| NewPipe Blog
The NewPipe project recently had a few debates on advertising, its ethics and how Team NewPipe decides whether or not a certain form of advertising is acceptable. In this article, we present our position on advertising in general, show the difference between ethical and unethical advertising, and explain why we do not intend to support technologies like SponsorBlock.| NewPipe Blog
The last update contained dozens of changes. Although we provided release candidates for testing to a wider audience, some regressions slipped through. This small update addresses critical bugs introduced in the last release, re-adds the option to hide the thumbnail on the lock screen when playing a stream in background mode, and brings a few optimizations “under the hood”.| NewPipe Blog
Another point release is here! We’re still focusing mostly on improvements and fixes, so no major features. @TobiGr was busy this time around, so the release manager for this version is @Stypox! We owe him our thanks!| NewPipe Blog
So this is a “hot” fix, as they say. Since the previous post was so long (too long) this will be positively tiny in comparison. Let’s dive right into it.| NewPipe Blog
Hey there, NewPipers! It’s been quite long since the last release. But for good reason: This release comes with quite major changes to the way NewPipe works, visibly as well as under the hood.| NewPipe Blog
Dear NewPipers, NewPipe Users, Hello World! It’s a weird time right now. Many things have changed and don’t work like they used to before. However, NewPipe and the NewPipe project just continue like nothing happens. NewPipe constantly gets bigger and better. People keep working on it and organize the project like COVID-19 doesn’t exist. For example, just a week ago we had the very first developer video call and, just one week before that, NewPipe hit number one trending on Hackernews. N...| NewPipe Blog
YouTube is back to working again! Apart from that, NewPipe 0.19.7 and 0.19.8 come with auto-play for all services and numerous fixes.| NewPipe Blog

As announced in our last post, we planned to release another update this week. Unlike the April fools’ blog post suggested, this update will not remove YouTube and SoundCloud support, but bring further improvements and fixes: the navigation sidebar received a small design update and two bugs were fixed.| NewPipe Blog
The NewPipe project has been informed about privacy concerns with regards to the integration of proprietary services YouTube and SoundCloud. Therefore, until further notice, we decided to remove these from the project. A hotfix release, 0.19.2, is being prepared and planned to be published tomorrow. Please beware that the following text was part of this year’s April’s fools joke. Please see @TheAssassin’s reply in the comments for more details on the context of this joke.| NewPipe Blog

8 days after the last release and the next one is already out: A hotfix for the Extractor! A change on YouTube’s side made it necessary. Hotfix A hotfix release regarding the Extractor usually means that all the older versions of NewPipe are likely to fail to play YouTube videos - this release is no difference. You might have wondered why there haven’t been any release announcements since 0.16.2. Unfortunately, writing these blog posts can consume a lot of time which our developers often think is better invested in writing new features or fixing bugs. However, you, the users, should have the chance to track all the changes made from release to release in such summaries, and we apologize for having had let things slide for a while. In this blog post, I want to provide a really short summary of what...| NewPipe Blog
