Ende Oktober 2024 erwarb die NABU-Stiftung Nationales Naturerbe im Krebsbachtal in Ostthüringen wertvolles Land für bedrohte Reptilien. Bis auf die Kreuzotter kommen alle Reptilienarten, die Thüringen zu bieten hat, in dem Naturparadies vor.
