On July 27th, our Half Day tour out of Port Townsend witnessed a humpback whale seaweed spa session! This behavior known as “kelping” is seen by many whale species, by rolling around in large floating bull kelp patches the kelp acts as a natural exfoliant for whales and helps remove barnacles and potential parasites. We felt so lucky to see CRC-15970 “Zephyr” playing in the kelp out in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
