The Front Range is part of the true Rocky Mountains of western America. The American Rockies are subdivided into three physiographic provinces - the Southern Rockies, the Middle Rockies, and the Northern Rockies. The Front Range is in the Southern Rockies - this includes mountain ranges in New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. The ranges in the Southern Rockies are cored by Precambrian-aged igneous and metamorphic rocks. Locality: view from the balcony of Denver's natural history museum
