Vairocanavajra, an Orissan by birth, was active in Tibet in the middle decades of the twelfth century. He learned Tibetan quite well, and had a number of students of various Kagyu lineages including the First Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa and Zhang Yudrakpa. He is best known for his single-handed translation of a group of doha songs of the Mahāsiddhas.
