Upon reloading the page, the checkboxes for the disabled iOS notifications are selected again, indicating the change was not saved to the database. I’m a new user, so this might just me making a mistake of some kind, but I added a Toggl integration today for the first time, and while it initially worked, it has seemingly stopped updating entirely. Here is what Beeminder is reporting: – Unable to embed media – And here is what I see inside of Toggl: – Unable to embed media – The 11:45am - 12:59am time is correct (0.94 * 60m), but the newly logged times aren’t being pulled. I haven’t hit the 30 requests/hour limit for Toggl y...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
You can get yourself in a state where the goal total isn’t actually the goal total. This one is an edge case, since I’m doing odd things. I’m also not 100% sure what should happen here. Steps to reproduce: Make a goal with 7 days of safety buffer. Use the commitment dial to set the goal total to 1 and the end date to just after the Akrasia Horizon. Trim down the safety buffer with Ratchet to one day. Expectation: A goal requiring one datapoint tomorrow (the intent) OR a goal reporting a...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Intuitively, what it means to derail on a Beeminder goal is that you’re in still in the red when your deadline hits. (In bright-red-staircase world you’d derail at the exact instant you cross the bright red line.) There’s more background on this in a years-old forum thread and I wanted to think through a proposal from @zzq and try putting it in my own words. Status quo: A Beeminder goal is deemed to be derailed if yesterday’s datapoint is in the red. Advantages of that definition: It...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
I’ve noticed over the past year that whenever I start a new habit, I seem to have an endless supply of motivation—at least at first. It feels like a burst of excitement that makes the habit almost effortless to follow. Some examples: After years of drinking alcohol routinely as part of most social activities, I stopped completely for about six months. I went from a fully sedentary lifestyle to running roughly 15 miles a week. After a lifetime of spending several hours a day online, I quit...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Saw an error in the server logs where a task wasn’t parsed because the database doc was missing the completed field. I’ve changed the schema to allow for this. I’m currently working toward switching from firestore to a relational database to eliminate this category of bug.| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
I noticed today that the dashboard data entry button now has an intriguing sigma sign on it. Tooltip says ‘Sigma for Summing’ because, well, maths notation. The intriguing bit for me is that it implies that non-sigma parentheticals are possible. Couldn’t find anything here in the forum or in the help docs, but maybe you know? My best guess is that it represents the behind-the-scenes kyoom value to indicate that the graph plots the cumulative total of daily aggregated values, regardless ...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Yeah, I only meant to propose that the server do the polling, like: adding a data point gives you a token that you pass to the endpoint for getting a graph, and that endpoint won’t return a graph until it’s sure that it’s been regenerated with the data point that generated the token. It sounds like several clients would benefit, and maybe it would be easier for the server than generating that “skinny” response multiple times per graph fetch.| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Fair point (and this is why we’re in free beta mode). This language was based on my original intent to require user encryption key for maximum security (which we still could do). I’m changing the language on the security section today: What it currently says: End-to-End Encryption - All sensitive data, including your API keys and credentials, is encrypted using industry-standard AES-256 encryption before being stored. Even we can’t see your encrypted data. What it will say: Secure Serve...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts

Hello there, I want to go out and meet with people and there are a few events in my city. However, I keep postponing it. I just feel like I should work, I feel tired, I should instead spend the evening with my gf, etc. I just don’t like pushing myself to go somewhere to meet new people for various reason, but I really need meeting new people and make friends beside my gf because it’s affecting negatively my mental health. Most time when I was super happy in my life was when I was meeting ...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Hello folks 👋. I started using Focusmate again this month and was checking the forums to see how people were using it and found a couple of threads with some interesting pain points with the current Beeminder integration: Doesn’t check if the session was completed or not so you may end up with mismatched data between Beeminder and Focusmate If you create 2 goals with the Focusmate integration, you will have duplicate data, there’s no way to specify what sessions should go to which goal...| Beeminder Forum
Looks like I got a distinction in immunology, arguably the most complex module I took. Lisa got me some extra books to celebrate the degree being done. Let me take a moment to appreciate the completion of my fourth degree again. I have first class honours in English lit (BA Hons) and Natural Sciences (BSc Hons), and a merit in English Lit (MA) and Infectious Diseases (MSc), the latter being from one of the foremost universities for infectious diseases in the world. I did good.| Beeminder Forum
Opening thoughts: It’s been tooooo waaaarm. I’m shocked I’ve been doing well this week – possibly due to the “new shiny” influence of “playing” Focumon. Changes to existing goals: I’ve put in a couple of breaks here and there for stuff that’s overwhelming, since my birthday is next week, and I’ve injured my wrist. /gotwheels hasn’t been given a break so far, but given cycling is how I injured my wrist, it likely will… Closing thoughts: Nothing major on my mind curren...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts

Some less structured impressions this week. It was the week of visiting a conference/workshop event in Denmark for which I have been preparing for a while now. (Actually writing this on a train back to CPH airport 🙂 ). I think I was able to leave a good impression about myself, and as an early career scholar I think these initial events in the status of my own full-ass PhD rather than a student are very important. Here are some of the ways how beeminder helped me get ready for this ...| Beeminder Forum
Hi y’all! I’m learning to develop iPhone apps and Time Stream is my first App Store app! It’s a routine app and you can connect the activities in routines to Beeminder goals to send +1 datapoints to those goals when you complete the connected activities. It’s not primarily a Beeminder app, but… it’s me; I gotsta have a Beeminder integration in my app! 🙂 🐝 Check it out if you’re curious. (No pressure, of course!) And if you do, feedback is most welcome! ...| Beeminder Forum
My kids are now onboard with my beeminder goals for their studies (sight words for the little one, Hebrew lesson for the big one) – they like the idea of helping me not lose money, so it helps rationalize my totally random-moment attempts at throwing flashcards at them. Cancelled my Boss as a Service subscription, which was ostensibly helping me make progress on a (pretend) Kant seminar every week, but mostly didn’t work for me. Switched it to a twice-a-week “touch” goal here on beemi...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
bfinn’s LessWrong post describes the Third Time workflow several ways: with examples, with natural language pseudocode procedures, with visual aids, … I think it’s great and I’ve used it to implement various Third Time GUIs. Now that it’s 2025, it only makes sense for me to figure out how to get AI agents to write the GUIs instead. 🧑💻 But when I try, I find myself arguing with them a lot. Third Time is just complex enough that an AI can write a design doc about it, and I ca...| Beeminder Forum

[adapted from a daily beemail a few months ago] We’ve argued before that Beeminder’s incentives are not at all as perverse as they seem. If Beeminder didn’t help you succeed at your goals then you’d stop using it. We’d have to be very myopic (and certainly wouldn’t have survived 7 (!) years) to want to make people more likely to fail. Still, it would seem too convenient to be true if maximizing Beeminder revenue and maximizing user awesomeness were always entirely identical. Well,...| Beeminder Forum
