Update: I’ve now been using Macrofactor for a few weeks and it’s very well done. The AI for estimating calories by taking a picture of your plate is impressive and makes calorie-counting frictionless enough. (And, yeah, it can’t tell if you added an extra stick of butter to the spaghetti sauce or whatever, but, pragmatically, just letting it make its best guess is good enough. Ice cream truck loopholes.) What I do still need is a way to beemind adherence to what Macrofactor tells me to ...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Looks like I got a distinction in immunology, arguably the most complex module I took. Lisa got me some extra books to celebrate the degree being done. Let me take a moment to appreciate the completion of my fourth degree again. I have first class honours in English lit (BA Hons) and Natural Sciences (BSc Hons), and a merit in English Lit (MA) and Infectious Diseases (MSc), the latter being from one of the foremost universities for infectious diseases in the world. I did good.| Beeminder Forum

Yes, I also miss this very much, assuming we are talking about the same thing 😂 I loved it for books goals (odometer): if I was in the red, it told me how many pages I needed to read to get to orange, blue, and green. I loved it for my bedtime goal: I could see whether the number to get in the green (or blue) was creeping closer or further away. AFAICT this was something unique to the iOS app. I have never been able to find the same information on the web.| Beeminder Forum
Hello, newbee Beeminder user here. I use beeminder with focusmate because it helps me with two goals that I have struggled with for years (1. not waking up early, and 2. not wanting to study). This year I started residency, so I really can’t procrastinate studying as much as I used to, and my work schedule is not as flexible as when I was just a student, so I really can’t afford to not study early in the morning before I go to work. I was using a morning beeminder deadline to force myself...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Opening thoughts: It’s been tooooo waaaarm. I’m shocked I’ve been doing well this week – possibly due to the “new shiny” influence of “playing” Focumon. Changes to existing goals: I’ve put in a couple of breaks here and there for stuff that’s overwhelming, since my birthday is next week, and I’ve injured my wrist. /gotwheels hasn’t been given a break so far, but given cycling is how I injured my wrist, it likely will… Closing thoughts: Nothing major on my mind curren...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
My intention is to jump directly into the shower as soon as I get up every morning. There are tons of reasons that this makes sense for me: I feel more awake, positive, and productive after showering It avoids bathroom scheduling conflicts later I actually enjoy being in the shower Yet for some reason, I find this very difficult. I have no problem getting up when my alarm goes off; but as soon as I get up I feel a strong akratic aversion to getting in the shower. This makes no sense on its fa...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts

Having some silly fun with Focumon. It’s a bit like the Habitica experience used to be (before my experiences as a moderator there), though with more limited social stuff. Bought some more stamps (and postcard sets!) to get back into actively doing Postcrossing. It’ll be a while before I receive any new postcards, but it’s nice to get back to it. My new recliner/reading nook is definitely doing the job of giving me a spot away from my PC to relax and read.| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
n8n is a powerful automation tool. I have shared before here it how I use it along with Todoist to manage my goals. I added a Beeminder node 4 years ago (announced on the forum here). At the time I only added support for a few API endpoints. With the help of Claude, I quickly added support for the rest of the operations and options. Also added support for Oauth2. I am excited to be able to use these along with MCP and AI Agents to quickly manage goals. That being said, I was a little disap...| Beeminder Forum
31 year old enby person from the UK, pronouns they/them/their. Support Czar for Beeminder, Moderator on Habitica, does support for Postcrossing. Pets bunnies, reads books, sometimes writes. Collects degrees (so far BA, MA, BSc, if you’re keeping score).| Beeminder Forum
I want to second this, with pocket shutting down recently I was looking for an alternative and this technique worked well. The only note I have is that for some reason the first article I marked “read” was not recorded by RSS minder - it might have been because I did it too soon after setting up the integration , but apart from that one day 1 hiccup it works perfectly. Mostly mentioning it in case someone else sets it up and gets worried that their first article didn’t get counted…| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts

I just switched phones which led to a couple potential bug reports/feature requests: Before I switched I thought I would connect my google account so the data would back up seamlesslessly. However, it seems that when connecting my google account my entire past log was deleted instead of backed up. Even though the log is gone, my history of tags is still there, however, I noticed this is not synced across phones, it also seems to not be part of the export. Is there any way to transfer the hist...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Some less structured impressions this week. It was the week of visiting a conference/workshop event in Denmark for which I have been preparing for a while now. (Actually writing this on a train back to CPH airport 🙂 ). I think I was able to leave a good impression about myself, and as an early career scholar I think these initial events in the status of my own full-ass PhD rather than a student are very important. Here are some of the ways how beeminder helped me get ready for this ...| Beeminder Forum
I noticed that I’m not really motivated to do the admin for the browsing goal, since I never even got close to derailing again and it’s in a way a duplicate of the screen time rating goal. So I scheduled to archive it. Screen time rating is more useful. It helps me to stay aware of when I use my devices as intended. There’s still a lot of buffer, but also some bad ratings. I’ll keep it steady at 3.5 / day. Tooth brushing and weight are both great motivators. I barely touch any chocola...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Hi y’all! I’m learning to develop iPhone apps and Time Stream is my first App Store app! It’s a routine app and you can connect the activities in routines to Beeminder goals to send +1 datapoints to those goals when you complete the connected activities. It’s not primarily a Beeminder app, but… it’s me; I gotsta have a Beeminder integration in my app! 🙂 🐝 Check it out if you’re curious. (No pressure, of course!) And if you do, feedback is most welcome! ...| Beeminder Forum
My kids are now onboard with my beeminder goals for their studies (sight words for the little one, Hebrew lesson for the big one) – they like the idea of helping me not lose money, so it helps rationalize my totally random-moment attempts at throwing flashcards at them. Cancelled my Boss as a Service subscription, which was ostensibly helping me make progress on a (pretend) Kant seminar every week, but mostly didn’t work for me. Switched it to a twice-a-week “touch” goal here on beemi...| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
Hello, I’ve setup 12+ goals totaling to about 6 hrs of time. Every now and then something comes up that is not an emergency and I am staring at a potential $20+ charge near the end of day. And over time I have realized I can’t be in the green or blue or yellow for daily goals. I could put in fewer goals each 2-5m but that only covers the smaller goals. How do I deal with this? Thanks| Beeminder Forum - Latest posts
bfinn’s LessWrong post describes the Third Time workflow several ways: with examples, with natural language pseudocode procedures, with visual aids, … I think it’s great and I’ve used it to implement various Third Time GUIs. Now that it’s 2025, it only makes sense for me to figure out how to get AI agents to write the GUIs instead. 🧑💻 But when I try, I find myself arguing with them a lot. Third Time is just complex enough that an AI can write a design doc about it, and I ca...| Beeminder Forum

[adapted from a daily beemail a few months ago] We’ve argued before that Beeminder’s incentives are not at all as perverse as they seem. If Beeminder didn’t help you succeed at your goals then you’d stop using it. We’d have to be very myopic (and certainly wouldn’t have survived 7 (!) years) to want to make people more likely to fail. Still, it would seem too convenient to be true if maximizing Beeminder revenue and maximizing user awesomeness were always entirely identical. Well,...| Beeminder Forum
