Last week I had the honour of taking part in the premiere of the inspiring new documentary film about responsible business - ‘Responsables’. It’s been 3 years in production by directors Tristan Lochon and Julien Demond with their team at Welcome to the Jungle. It will be available to watch later in the year, airing first on French TV (Ushuaia TV in September, followed by streaming on TF1+). More details to follow in the coming months about the film and it’s wider release, but if you w...| Substack

This isn’t an attack on John Pistelli, whose work in general I respect. But the topic of white male novelists and representation in literature is so tiresome, so played out, past its prime, I’d gladly guide it into a suicide pod. But until then, I suppose it gives me yet another chance to rehearse a few points. Art has been declared dead; that means it’s both marginal and ubiquitous to the point of vapidity. High end literature, specifically, isn’t worth much on the market, and doesn...| Substack

This was a reply to @Gnocchic Apocryphon, but also to @Daniel Oppenheimer and his post-left episode: https://danieloppenheimer.substack.com/p/what-was-the-post-left. Still a lot to work out later, but notes toward a better sociology of the current intellectual configuration. —- First of all, the Trotskyist dimension is essential to understanding the original neocons, though I am shakier on the Podhoretzes and Kristols than neocon-adjacent liberals like Daniel Bell and Seymour Martin Lipset....| Substack

I’ve included this footnote in a couple of articles recently, but let’s talk about the C-word. “Content”. It’s a dirty word to many pundits and analysts and first off, I get it. It seems demeaning to dismissively label all filmic art as mere “content”. It feels too consumerist, commercial, what have you, like artists are just workers in a factory cranking out more product or, in this case, “content” and all content is just consumed. But let me defend it, linguistically....| Substack

I am on Charlie Kirk’s hit list. His so-called “Professor Watchlist,” run under the umbrella of Turning Point USA, is nothing more than a digital hit list for academics who dare to speak truth to power. I landed there in 2024 after writing commentary that inflamed the MAGA faithful. And once my name went up, the harassment machine roared to life. For weeks my inbox and voicemail were deluged. Mostly white men spat venom through the phone: “bitch,” “c*nt,” “n****r.” They thre...| Substack

Everything feels like it’s getting harder, doesn’t it? More hours. Less money. More noise. Less attention. And somehow, in all this chaos, we're still expected to “build a career,” “grow a brand,” and “monetize our passion” like it’s not all a full-blown cosmic joke. What even is life? I’ve played this game for over a decade. I’ve built a successful creative business from scratch and helped thousands of authors do the same. and yet… I still feel the weight of this syst...| Substack
On the empirical question, I would just say this: When a subject has been discussed for decades and the vast majority of relevant experts near-unanimously report a particular conclusion, and I see that same conclusion reported in all my personal experiences with non-experts as well, then in the absence of any reason to believe otherwise - which so far hasn’t been provided - then it seems appropriate to believe that the conclusion is widespread. But, with that said, I think you might be inte...| Substack
I am not sure whether @Michael Levin fully recognizes the metaphysical implications of his radical position (who among us can?!). He is affirming that as yet unactualized patterns in Platonic morphospace have some kind of autonomous efficacy to shape biological development and evolution. From a process-relational point of view, such a position either succumbs to the fallacy of misplaced concreteness by granting abstractions efficient causal power, or it tacitly presupposes something like Whit...| Substack
