Q is for Quick Bread!| Jolene's Recipe Journal
Q is for quiche! The wonderfully easy press in crust comes from the Cafe Sucre Farine. The cauliflower can be done ahead of time, the crust can be done ahead, then it's just a matter of assemble and bake. I am sadly alone among my family in my love of quiche but it actually does freeze, so I will enjoy it leisurely! I love those little seasonal Costco frozen mini quiches, so I would love to try this as a mini.| A Messy Kitchen

P is for pecan, a popular ingredient in Southern candies. As far as fudge is concerned, I think "fantasy fudge" might be the most common type of home cooked fudge here in the states; the kind that uses marshmallow creme. Non-chocolate fudge is typically sweeter than chocolate fudge as it lacks the balancing bitter notes of the cocoa solids. But if you like penuche, maple bars, and/or pecans, you will certainly enjoy this fudge. Don't skimp on the pecans, and definitely toast them as i...| A Messy Kitchen

N is for the Negroni. If you've never tried Campari or a bitter alcohol before, or don't like very strong cocktails, this is a good introduction to an assertive flavor. It's frozen version of the classic Negroni and a great summer drink. This was my first introduction to that spirit a year ago and I loved it! Campari reminds me of grapefruit with its bitter, citrusy notes and since I quite like both bitters and grapefruit, this was a winner for me. If you want it less tipsy, you can...| A Messy Kitchen
N is for New England!| Jolene's Recipe Journal
M is for mini and marionberry this month. I found this recipe years ago when I had a bunch of leftover cake mixes from helping with a school music and dessert sale. Sometimes it is nice to just fall back on a boxed cake mix though we use them less than once a year. Just to note, this needs a standard boxed mix that has a fat included in the ingredients. It will not work with those super simple organic mixes that are only dry ingredients. Ask me how I know. I prefer Duncan Hines because ...| A Messy Kitchen

L is for lemongrass, a seasoning that I love but that I don't use nearly often enough! This is a quick and wonderfully flavorful stir fry that will come together in the time it takes to cook the rice. I would call it Thai inspired and it is great for those people who crave Asian style flavors but must avoid soy. This time my green onions were running short and so I used a thinly sliced onion and some garlic chives freshly clipped from the garden. A great change up from our typical sti...| A Messy Kitchen

K is for kimchi in our alphabet baking challenge. Now that I know I can get good, fresh udon at the local grocers, I can whip up these noodle dinners more often. They come together very quickly and are wonderfully flexible on ingredients. Choose your protein and veg, tweak the sauce to taste, udon is just delicious. Hubby is fairly picky about kimchi, having served in South Korea for a year, but I found out from my Korean friend that even after kimchi has fermented to the point where it i...| A Messy Kitchen
For letter J, we have jollof rice! Beautifully flavored and quite spicy, feel free to reduce the amount of spicy pepper if you are not used to it. I used one pepper for a half batch and it was quite spicy but not lose the tongue hot. Spice is also very filling. Youngest thought this tasted very much like our favorite yellow curry and the flavors are indeed similar. Love the curry addition.| A Messy Kitchen

I is for Irish Colcannon and this fusion with mac and cheese. Colcannon itself is a mixture of mashed potatoes, green onions, and cabbage or kale. Now, mix that together with a cheesy sauce and macaroni and you have tonight's dinner. It isn't exactly your typical mac and cheese, consider it closer to a pasta casserole type recipe. Regardless, it is chock full of flavor, super filling, and very yummy. #carbcasserole My picky-about-mac-and-cheese eldest declared it super good and my y...| A Messy Kitchen

H is for Hagelslag and a recipe that is so simple it almost doesn't count! Bread, butter, and chocolate sprinkles. That's it. Well, not American chocolate sprinkles, (think Wilton), please don't try this with those fake wax bombs. Seek out real chocolate sprinkles, there is absolutely no comparison. The ones most readily available here are De Ruijter sprinkles and if you happen to have a World Market anywhere nearby, a box is only eight bucks and lasts a very long time.
